After a short lull in works on the St Judes Highway, work is expected to resume on Thursday May 12, 2022, according to a release from The Department of Infrastructure, Ports and Transport informing motorists of the closure of this road section for a day from 8:00am.
The lull is a necessary stage in asphalting since it allows the works done in the penultimate stage to settle to show signs of any weakness which are then corrected before the final stage. In the final phase a new asphalt surface is installed on the already supportive structures. This fresh surface will provide a clean, smooth ride.
Photos of work as of January 2022This stretch of road has been a headache for
motorists even reaching to a point where the Member of Parliament for Vieux
Fort South, Dr Kenny Anthony had to assure his constituents that work on this
road would commence shortly.
Under this project the contractor, Construction
and Industrial Products (CIE) Ltd, a subsidiary of Rayneau Group of Companies
Ltd., is responsible for its design, finance and construction.
The works are expected to be completed by the end
of Thursday, May 12, barring any unforeseen circumstances including inclement
weather. Motorists are advised to utilize alternative routes.
