During 2020 – 2021 the continuous deterioration of the section of the St Judes’ Highway ( from the old hospital gap to the Spartan Club gap) became a nightmare for commuters plying this route. Complaints from the minibus drivers and other motorists concerning the deplorable condition of the road which were made to both the district rep and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport were recieved on a daily basis. A gentleman, Stephen Albert, a resident of the area also staged a one-man protest against the poor condition of the road back in January 2022.
The relentless cries of the commuters was finally heard by the relevant authorities, even to the point where the parliamentary rep issued a statement assuring the complainants that attention to their concern will be taken care of soon.
The Rep kept his word, because during the first
week of January 2022 work commenced on the St Judes’ Highway by Construction and Industrial
Equipment (CIE) Ltd. During the next few weeks, works on the project entailed
- Demolition and Removal of old surface
- Grading
and Sloping the surface
- Preparing
the Sub Base.
- Installing
the Binder and Surface Course.
In spite of a short lull in continuation of the works, work recommenced, and a new asphalt surface was installed on Thursday May, 12, 2022. (Check slide show below). To complete the project, the new asphalt pavement surface was compacted and smoothed. Motorists will now experience a smooth ride and a shiny, attractive finished surface.
