As 2021 comes to a close and 2022 arrives, we’d like to take some
time to recap a great year for Construction and Industrial Equipment (CIE) Ltd., in St Lucia and Dominica. 2021 challenged us in ways we never imagined. This year we also observed twenty-six years in business
shaping our communities, supporting our clients and growing our employees.
In an unprecedented time, Construction and
Industrial Equipment (CIE) Ltd rolled up our sleeves and got to work. We
turned to our strengths — our decades of experience, our team, and our
dedication to sustainable, and safe construction. We accomplished
work that we can stand by, the same way we stand by our clients, friends and
community as we took on various projects. From roads improvement, schools,
housing projects and hospital builds, here are some projects we worked on
through 2021.
THE NEW MARIGOT HOSPITAL
A signature project which gained Construction and Industrial Equipment (CIE) Ltd high praise is the Dominica New Marigot Hospital - a new state-of-the-art 75-bed capacity hospital which occupies 55,800
square feet. This modern hospital features an operation theatre, in-patient
wards, X-ray services, A&E facilities, ICU, lab services, a dialysis unit,
and staff quarters, among other services. Status: Completed
THE POSTLEWAITE ROAD AND VOLET BRIDGE PROJECTS
In January CIE commenced work on two civil
works projects in the North and South of the Island (St Lucia)
- - the Postlewaite Road Project (Union
Hill) which entailed the construction of 438M of a new two-lane
asphalt road pavement to provide a significantly improved road alignment to the
existing multiple and poorly aligned bends in the same location. Status: Ongoing
- - the
Volet Bridge Project in Micoud which
spanned 15m at the intersection of the road
to La Tille Falls and Garden. The work entailed: piling, sidewalks construction,
and asphalt pavement. This project was satisfactorily completed within
the prescribed time frame. Status: Completed
During
the months July - August works was already in progress on the La Guerre and
Vide Bouteille Primary Schools after the sod-turning ceremony had taken place in
June. Works are ongoing.
THE LA GUERRE PRIMARY SCHOOL
Set on a 15,500sq ft. lot, the new La Guerre Primary School, will include
an external area, open breezeway, retaining walls, parking lot area (including
drainage) for staff and visitors' vehicles connecting to the existing roadway,
wheelchair and pedestrian accesses to the building, septic system, and
rainwater harvesting system. Staus: Ongoing
THE VIDE BOUTEILLE PRIMARY SCHOOL
The
Vide Bouteille Primary School works will include an external area, open
breezeway, parking lot area (including drainage) for staff and
visitors' vehicles connecting to the existing roadway, wheelchair and pedestrian accesses to
building, septic system, and rainwater harvesting system. Status: Ongoing
The
following 3 projects was awarded by the Government of Dominica (GOCD) to
implement the 9th Basic Needs Trust Fund Programme (BNTF 9).
THE ROSEAU UPPER RIVERBANK HOUSING DEVELOPMENT
Meanwhile
in Dominica, the Roseau Upper River Bank Housing Development, which entails two buildings, 5
storeys each; each building contains 26 two bedroom units, which gives a total of 52 bedroom units and four three bedroom units.
Along
with the bedroom units, CIE constructed
8 retailing units where small business entrepreneurs such as hair braiders can
find space in a comfortable environment to make a living for themselves and
their families. Staus: 95% complete
CASTLE BRUCE SECONDARY SCHOOL PRODUCTION FACILITY
This
Project entailed the construction of a concrete chicken coop with troughs and
feeders. Provision was also made for small cages, hatching pens and breeding
pens. The second component was the construction of a concrete slaughter house
with a timber and metal roof. The installation of waste basins, aluminum tables
and knife sanitizers as well as a washroom facility was also built. Status: Completed
DOMINICA ASSOCIATION OF PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES DEVELOPMENT CENTER
This
project entailed the construction of a modern and resilient facility for
persons with disabilities. Status: Completed
DOMINICA COMMUNITY HIGH SCHOOL EXTENSION
The
Dominica Community High School project was the construction of an extension to the school
building, which consists of a two floor concrete structure. Status: Completed
CASTRIES PORT REPAIR WORKS (Completed)
BALATA/MORNE DUDON ROAD PROJECT

The Balata to Morne Du Don Road Scope of works entailed rehabilitation of 2.737 km of asphalt road pavement. CIE:- - Demolished damaged road infrastructure
- Reconstructed drains
- Constructed Kerb and retaining walls and culvert crossings
- Develop Watercourse training works Status: Completed
PIAT ROAD PROJECT This project saw the rehabilitation of the Piat Development roads which consist of 848m of new concrete road pavement. GROS ISLET AND CASTRIES ROAD PROJECT
| Under this project CIE Ltd, designed, financed and constructed 57 roads (totaling 17.5 km), 36 roads in the district of Gros Islet (totaling 12.2 km) and 22 in the district of Castries North (totaling 5.3 km). Of these 57 roads, 43 are to be constructed with asphalt and the remaining 14 were constructed in concrete. Along with the pavement, drainage and retaining walls were constructed for each road. Status: Completed. | Vieux Fort Red Cross Office (Completed)
HIA ROAD ALIGNMENT PROJECTOur highly skilled team completed the asphalt concrete road works at Hewanorra International Airport in Vieux Fort. Staus: Completed. Other projects undertaken by CIE Ltd this year are as follows:
- Rainforest Seafood Freezer and Warehouse Project
- Vigie House Project,
- Marc and Dennery Road Project,
- Cabot Golf Course and Resort Works,
- La Resourse Road and Drainage Works,
- Jolly's Villa Project.
With many new projects under contract for 2022 and an ever-growing highly skilled CIE team, we’d like to thank all our clients for their business.
