< WHAT IT TAKES TO BE A GOOD DAD? >
If you sit there and ask yourself right now, “Am I a good dad?”
What would you say?
Would you say most of the time? Would you say maybe? Or would you
be unsure?
There are no right or wrong answers to this question, and everyone will have a different opinion on what it means to be a good dad.
As you read the following criteria of a “good dad,” be sure to
take a look at yourself and be honest. It’s never too late to improve and the
fact that you’re here reading this right now, tells us that you are a good
dad.
Being a good dad is about being willing to learn
with your kids and to be open and honest in the conversations you have with
them. It's about not being afraid to talk to your kids about the things in life
you are nervous to talk about and not passing these conversations off to other
people. It's important for children to have a good role model to look up to in
life
As a father, you want to be there for your
children, to impart knowledge and share experiences with them, to help them see
things that they may not always see. “I’m not there to rule, but to encourage them to
excel in what they like and all that they want to be, ” says a dad from the South.
At the end
of the day, as a father, you just want to see your children happy. And as
parents, we’re always looking out for our children’s strengths and weaknesses,
and encouraging them to develop their capabilities.
Fatherhood means being a good steward for the next
generation, raising them right with good values and an identity that they will
carry throughout their lives. It’s also about
being your children carer, provider and nurturer.
At Rayneau we feel that the most important
qualities that a father can impart to his children are humility and
thankfulness.
- they’ll have empathy towards others, and also
- realise that life is all about teamwork and considering not just their own needs
- but also the needs of the people around them
We also believe it’s important to never look down on
others and never judge. And, there’s no such thing as being spoon-fed or
feeling entitled. Whatever you want in life, you’ve got to work hard to get it
– no matter who you are.
Finally, a good dad loves, even when he doesn’t feel like it. Let’s face it, as fathers, we may not always feel that we get the credit we deserve; but we have to love, protect, nurture, and provide anyway.
