This weekend the Southern Equestrian Alliance is holding “coudamain” to compliment the work Construction and Industrial Equipment Ltd (CIE has completed so far to bring back local horse racing at the old runway in Vieux-Fort (Caca Bef) the week-end before Creole Day.
Over the past weeks, CIE heavy equipment has been at work clearing the Caca Bef area and constructing a horse race track.
An official of the Southern Equestrian Alliance, is calling on all horsemen, friends, and well-wishers of the group to come together this weekend to give a Coudamein to expedite the work Mr Gahadhar’s company has been doing.
“I’m sending out a notification to all horsemen that want to see that happen. We’re going to have a Coudamein Saturday and Sunday [this weekend] to clear a part of the base, at the bottom of the base for corralling the horses……We have the commitment of Mr Rayneau, that he will be assisting us so we sending a general notification to all horsemen on the island and abled-bodied, to come with your weedeater and cutlasses to make that happen. Melchoir remarked
He continued, ''We have the support of a very influential person, so let's make the effort fellas, try and do something, Saturday and Sunday, 9 oçlock. We start to do some serious work because we do not have much time……this is a call out for a coudamein.”
The lull in the Alliance’s activities which for the past few years was due to the COVID pandemic as well as the crime situation in Vieux-Fort, is now back on a solid footing with approximately 40 members, who are all excited about the planned event
Melchoir told Loop News that the Alliance has already obtained permission from the St Lucia Air and Seaport Authority (SLASPA) to use the area for the race and has gotten some assistance from Rayneau Gajadhar in terms of clearing the tracks. He also wants the Alliance to teach young people the value of horses and the opportunities that exist in becoming a jockey.
Mr Gajadhar, CEO of the Rayneau Group of Companies is no stranger when it comes to Philantophy. Mr Gajadhar's philanthropic footprints can be seen all over the island. Recent works include the paving of Parliament Yard, assisting the St Vincent and the Grenadines Police Youth Club while on the island, and various other humanitarian works.
About 30 horses from around the island are expected to take part in the event on the weekend before Creole Day, which is expected to attract a large crowd. For security barricades on both sides of the track will be erected for the safety of the spectators.
