The announcement by the local Met Office forecasting a
tropical wave last week had a number of persons making last minute
shopping, while others in various communities were hurriedly repairing roofs
which had previously showed signs of leaks over an extended period. "Is this how it should be? A conservative asked.
Meteorologist have predicted that this year's
hurricane season will be an above average season. Yet many of us continue to
procrastinate with the notion that "God is good, nothing will
happen." Oh! How complacent many of us can be? It only takes one storm to
wreck one's life savings. An article posted yesterday online entitled
"Atlantic Hurricane Predictions Turn Nasty, 12-17 Named Storms
Expected" revealed that the National Oceanic and Atmospheric
Administration (NOAA) had revised its predictions for the 2016 Atlantic
Hurricane Season, and reported that this year could be the most active since 2012.
The forecasters at the National Oceanic and
Atmospheric Administration reported that there’s a 70 percent chance of 12 to
17 named storms forming. NOAA’s updated predictions were released Thursday. The
forecast for the season, which doesn’t end until Nov. 30, now includes the
potential for two to four major hurricanes.
A painful reminder of Hurricane Tomas |
The initial outlook called for 10 to 16 named
storms, four to eight hurricanes, and one to four major hurricanes. The
seasonal averages are 12 named storms, six hurricanes and three major
hurricanes.
As the 2016 season nears its peak, forecasters at NOAA
urge residents in coastal areas to be prepared. It’s not a question of if, but
when, forecasters say.
At Rayneau we believe that readiness is everything when disaster strikes -
readiness can mean the difference between life and death, between chaos and
composure.
