Week 12 – Hurricane Preparedness Series | RCIP
When a hurricane is approaching, you don’t have time to guess — you need to act. Knowing which protective materials to grab — and how to use them effectively — can help minimize damage to your roof, doors, windows, and low-lying areas.

At RCIP, we’ve helped thousands of Saint Lcians prepare with confidence. In Week 12 of our series, we break down the big three: Tarps, Sandbags, and Storm Shields.
1. Tarps – Your First Defense Against Roof Leaks
- Perfect for covering damaged or vulnerable roofing, broken windows, outdoor furniture, vehicles, or appliances.
- RCIP stocks heavy-duty waterproof tarps in various sizes, with reinforced eyelets for secure tie-down.
- Bonus tip: Always keep ropes, bungee cords, and duct tape with your tarp for fast deployment.
2. Sandbags – Block the Flow Before It Hits You
- Used to divert water from doorways, garages, basements, and yard drains.
- RCIP carries durable empty sandbags and pre-filled options (where available), plus shovels and buckets for quick filling.
- Stack them in a brick-like pattern for best results and never overfill (⅔ full is ideal).
3. Storm Shields – Fortify Vulnerable Entry Points
- Protects windows, glass doors, air vents, and generators from flying debris and high winds.
- We provide aluminum panels, plywood sheets, and fixings that can be installed quickly and removed easily post-storm.
- Ask our team about installation kits and anchoring systems available at all RCIP locations.
Smart Storage Tip:
Store tarps and sandbags in a dry, accessible area. Keep fasteners and tools in a labeled bin or bucket — your future self will thank you when the storm is 48 hours away.
