Every
December 13th, the island of Saint Lucia, alongside the Rayneau Group of
Companies Ltd., joyously commemorates the roots of its name on the feast day of
St. Lucy, known in Latin as Sancta Lucia.
Originally
christened Iyanola, meaning "Land of Iguanas," by the tranquil
Amerindians who settled between 200 and 400 AD, the island witnessed a shift in
dominion around 800 AD when the more assertive Caribs took charge and adapted
the name to Hewanorra.
In
the seventeenth century, the French bestowed the island with its third name,
and today, Saint Lucia continues to honor the Feast of St. Lucy of Syracuse, a
revered figure who lived from AD 283 to 304.
Much
like Independence Day, National Day in Saint Lucia is rooted in fostering pride
and unity among its citizens. On this occasion, many Saint Lucians proudly don
the national costume or attire themselves in the colors of the flag,
symbolizing a collective celebration of patriotism.
It is noteworthy that National Day not only serves as a momentous occasion in its own right but also heralds the commencement of the Christmas season, marking new beginnings in the days to follow.
On
this special day, The Management and staff of Rayneau Group of Companies Ltd
extend our warmest wishes to the Government and people of Saint Lucia. We hope
that the country continues to prosper and that its people enjoy peace,
happiness, and good health. Happy National Day, Saint Lucia!
