CIE LTD - DELIVERING ITS EXPERTISE ON PROJECTS IN THE SPICE ISLE

You may have read our blog dated May 7, 2022, where we stated the major land slippage project that Construction and Industrial Equipment (CIE) Ltd has undertaken in Grenada.

The long-awaited repair of the Moliniere Main Road in St. George following extensive slippage that has caused major inconveniences for residents, businesses in the area, and motorists for almost three (3) years, got underway earlier this month.

The three-month delay of the project was because, although the contract was signed, the concessions for CIE  Ltd were not ready, neither were negotiations completed with the landowners and considerations were not given to occupants of the houses located above the Moliniere road which will be affected by the start of work in the area.

“…As a responsible government, we found it necessary to do due diligence before we start with this project…and we decided to get the people involved, and to enter into negotiations with them before we touch anything there on the property in Moliniere,” Prime Minister Mitchell remarked.

To witness the progress on this major project the newly installed Minister for Infrastructure, and Physical Development, Public Utilities, Civil Aviation & Transportation, Dennis Cornwall was on site recently.

The Minister expressed pleasure with the progress thus far and applaud the Rayneau crew for working speedily to address this issue that has significantly affected livelihoods, businesses, and the transportation sector.

Extensive deterioration of the Moliniere main road in St. George has led to its closure since December 16, 2019, resulting in traffic being re-routed through the village of Mt. Moritz and with some residents forced to vacate the immediate area as the cracks in the road widen and deepen putting the structures of their homes and businesses at risk.

Simultaneously, CIE Ltd is contracted to prepare the infrastructure for the installation of traffic lights in the spice Isle. Well, the project has started and Minister for Mobilization, Implementation and Transportation confirmed this recently.

The reinstallation of traffic lights has been a talking point for some time even among members of the previous administration. Some believe it isn’t necessary while others share a different opinion.

“The traffic lights are here. What we are doing, we have been working on the infrastructure putting it in place to facilitate the lights,’ the MIT minister revealed

The infrastructural works in St Georges is complete while trench works and running of cables in other areas are ongoing. The traffic lights will be installed on Graniteang Road, Young Street, Scott Street, Granby Street, Paddock Street, and Belmont Junction. The project is estimated to be completed before year-end.
