IT’S THE IDEAL TIME FOR PAINTING YOUR HOME

While we emphasized in our "Go Green With Rayneau" post the need to conserve water this Dry Season, it’s also a time to take on your painting projects at home.

Painting the exterior of your home isn’t the type of job that can be done at any time in the year. After all, you’ve probably never seen anyone up on a ladder, painting away in the dead of the rainy season. So why is it that exterior paint jobs seem to happen only in one part of the year? Hint: it’s not just because nobody wants to spend the day outside painting and have to be frequently interrupted by intermittent showers!

In order for your paint job to turn out perfectly, the weather needs to cooperate. This is because how the paint dries is directly related to the temperature and conditions at the time of application.

Ideally, you want to choose a time that gives you warm, dry days. It’s also a good idea to look at the weather for the few days before and after your painting day. If it rains before you paint, your siding might need a couple of days to fully dry out before painting. The same goes for after the application—you want to make sure it’s not going to pour rain the day after when your paint is still curing.

You also want to be careful of big temperature fluctuations from day to night. If you’ve got perfect temperatures during the day, but then a sudden drop after the sun goes down, the paint will react and won’t cure properly. Again, this could leave you with a less than smooth surface, with cracking and peeling.

So, what is the ideal weather for exterior painting? The dry season offers up the best weather conditions, with minimal rain and minimal fluctuations in temperature from day to night. This will ensure the paint goes on smoothly and has the chance to dry and cure properly.

GO GREEN WITH RAYNEAU - CONSERVE WATER THIS DRY SEASON

Going green is all about energy and water conservation. Aside from the benefits this offers the world as a whole, personally, it helps us to save money by reducing our monthly energy and utility bills. This is achieved in a number of ways, including replacing common plumbing fixtures and making sure to schedule routine preventative maintenance. With this in mind, here are some tips for incorporating green plumbing into your life

STOP LEAKS:

The Water and Sewage Authority has once again called upon St Lucians to conserve water as it appears that the dry season is beginning to take its toll on the island’s water resources. One of the most important steps you can take to help conserve water usage in your home is to find any leaks in your plumbing system, including in pipes, faucets, and toilets. These leaks can be caused by old pipes, worn out toilet flappers, drippy faucets, leaking valves – the list goes on and on.

A small pipe leak repair is a basic home repair job that you'll want to tackle yourself. Pipe leaks occur with regularity and waiting for a plumber to arrive is not a very wise idea. For minor leaks in PVC or rubber pipes, a do it yourself repair suffices. You can run up a big water bill in a hurry if you get a leak in your pipes. With a few steps, you can stop the leak temporarily and still have running water.

Speaking with a plumber he suggested the items DIYers will need to repair a small pipe leak. These items are available at our  store.

  •          Epoxy Paste
  •          Pipe Clamp
  •          Sandpaper
  •          Compound Stick
  •          Hose
  •          Knife
  •          Screwdriver

LOW-FLOW/DUAL FLUSH TOILETS:

You can also conserve water and lower your water bills by installing low-flow toilets which are a great plumbing option. Chances are if you purchased a new toilet in the past decade you already own a low-flow toilet, but if you still have a standard toilet in your home, know that you can save 3 or more gallons of water per flush. That may not sound like a lot, but consider this: installing a low-flow toilet can reduce bathroom water consumption by 50%. Now do we have your attention?

You can also opt for the dual-flow toilet, which has two flush buttons: one for liquid (which uses around .8 gallons per use) and the other for solids.

LOW-FLOW FAUCETS AND SHOWER HEADS:

Several faucets that are low-flow are now being produced by  various companies, which offer a flow rate that is a maximum of around 30 percent less than traditional styles.

Even if you are not seeking out a new faucet, you can save water and limit the water flow by simply replacing the existing aerators on your faucet for modern ones.

New low flow shower heads also play their part in saving consumers money and water as much as 75% less. This modern fixture can reduce water usage drastically no matter what the water pressure availability is.

LA GUERRE RESIDENTS TO BE "PART OF THE BUILDING PROCESS" SAYS GAJADHAR AS CIE SIGNS CONTRACT FOR CONSTRUCTION OF NEW LA GUERRE COMBINED SCHOOL

The Government of Saint Lucia (GOSL) has received financing from the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) towards the cost of the Education Quality Improvement Project (EQuIP - the Project) and intends to apply a portion of the proceeds of this financing to the construction of the La Guerre Primary School.
Mr Gajadhar and Michelle Charles (Ms) at signing table.

After the Government of St Lucia (GOSL), Department of Education (DOE) invited sealed bids/tenders from eligible bidders for EQuIP003A.2 - La Guerre Combined Primary School Expansion and Rehabilitation, our very own Construction and Industrial Equipment Ltd (CIE) was formally awarded the contract at a recent signing ceremony on Thursday April1, 2021  at the NIC building, Floor 3, Ministry of Education.

Present at that ceremony were the GOSL and DOE officials in the persons of District Representative for Babonneau and Minister of Agriculture Hon. Ezekiel Joseph, Minister of Education, Hon Gale Rigobert, Permanent Secretary Michelle Charles (Ms) and Mr Rayneau Gajadhar, CEO/Team Leader of Rayneau Group of Companies Ltd., as well as their respective teams.

The contract works include, but are not limited to the following:

The new construction of a reinforced concrete building of part two-storey and part three-storey including a reinforced concrete roof and basement floor, of approximate total floor space of 15,233 sq. ft., of school teaching and administration space.  Set on a 15,500sq ft. lot, the facility is to house the La Guerre Primary School, to include an external area, open breezeway, retaining walls, parking lot area (including drainage) for staff and visitors' vehicles connecting to the existing roadway, wheelchair and pedestrian accesses to the building, septic system, and rainwater harvesting system.

Photos from the ceremony

In spite of the large cadre of bidders/tenders, both local and regional, CIE emerged the most qualified to handle this project. Among other qualification requirements to be considered for this job was the participation as contractor, management contractor, or subcontractor, in at least two (2) contracts within the last five (5) years, each with a value of at least three million eastern Caribbean dollars (XCD 3,000,000.00) or one million, one hundred and ten thousand United States Dollars (USD 1,110,000.00), that have been successfully and substantially completed and that are similar to the proposed Works.

Throughout the Caribbean, Mr Gajadhar’s CIE has maintained its reputable work ethics coupled with quality of work, consistency and on-time projects completion. According to Mr Gajadhar in his brief remarks at the ceremony, “We are going to put all efforts to ensure that we deliver a good product before the time. However I must also say that because the project is going up in the La Guerre area I will make every opportunity available to the people of La Guerre to be part of the building of the school.  In that way they will know what is going on how it is going on and feel that they were part of even twenty years later….”

Another official on Rayneau’s Team concurring with Mr Gajadhar remarks said, “We will deliver to the La Guerre Community and by extension the Government and people of St Lucia a class act school to the best of our ability.”

Work is expected to commence in the coming weeks.
