4 Ways to Give Your Home that Magical Curb Appeal Which Gets People Excited

Looking to step up your home’s curb appeal? You know what they say – first impressions are everything whether you’re trying to sell your home or simply refresh the exterior. The exterior of your home is the first thing a person sees when they visit your home, and the last thing they see when they leave. An elegant front door, a lush
garden and a welcoming walkway can all add to your home’s aesthetic appeal.

These 4 easy tips will have the outside of your home in excellent shape in no time.

1 – Paint Front Door: One of the first things people are drawn to is your front door. It’s the main entrance to your home and it deserves a little TLC. By painting your door you make your home stand out, showing that you’ve taken care of your door will give people a positive first impression, without them worrying what else you haven’t taken care of, if it is scuffed, flaking or damaged.

You can choose a new colour at this point, but stick to a fairly neutral colour unless you are certain that it works with your property style and garden. If you like the colour you already have, simply repaint it to keep it fresh. Our Paint and Sundries Department will be of invaluable assistance in choosing all your painting needs.

2 – Clear Weeds: Maybe the weeds in your front garden don’t bother you, but it’s another one of those tasks which, when taken care of, allows the people passing by to see that you’re the kind of person who has taken care of their home. The more often you keep on top of the weeding, the fewer lengthy sessions you’ll have to spend doing it. Contact our Lawn and Garden Department for tools and products.

While you’re at this task, it’s worth sweeping your pathway, clearing any weeds you’ve pulled up as well as any litter or foliage which has fallen there. This makes a clear path for visitors and does wonders for the overall impression your front garden gives off.

3 – Update Welcome Mat: It’s understandable that over time the welcome mat at your door will become a little disheveled and rough around the edges, so throw the old one out and sharpen up your doorstep with a new welcome mat. A trim, bright looking mat will help tie all your other work together, giving visitors and friends a clean impression of your home before stepping in – it also signals that your carpets inside are less likely to be tracked with mud.

4 - Pressure Wash Driveway: If your drive or pathway is made up of concrete, bricks or tiles, they’ll no doubt have gotten a little murkier over the years due to pollution and general weathering. Whether they’ve gone green, grey or black, get the pressure washer out – or rent one from Rayneau Rentals & Sales – and give them a good blast. You’ll soon notice the difference and so will  your neigbours and friends.

The Best Time to Update Your Decor for the Holiday Season is Right Now!

                                                                         Have a Holly Jolly October!

Do you wait to put up holiday decorations until November? Or maybe you don't put up the tree until the week before Christmas? Our philosophy on holiday decorating has always been "the more the merrier" and "the sooner the better," meaning we start decorating for Christmas early in October. If you have doubts about this timing, you might reconsider this year: Scientists actually say that decorating for the holidays can make you happier. So why not start as early as possible?

Decorating your home for Christmas months before the holiday — even as early as October — can make you a happier person, according to a report. Decking the halls early is a spirit-booster because it tends to trigger pleasant childhood memories, and makes folks feel more social, experts and studies show. When you’re putting up decorations, you’re thinking of happier times, times with family and friends and family traditions you engaged in.

Navita Designs got plenty of Christmas decoration ideas to get you started—all of which make you happy, help you connect with the neighbors, and bring some (literal) light to your community. And if you’re planning to do any Christmas DIY projects, why not get a head start in the October? Plus, Christmas music is always acceptable, no matter what the season. So bust out the ornaments, throw a batch of Christmas cookies in the oven, and start decorating.

New School Year Starts – Happy Safe Learning from Rayneau Group of Companies.

With the start of the new school year, a lot must have happened so that students can learn and thrive without raising the risk of spreading COVID-19.

Returning to school this new school year poses new challenges for schools, including implementing mitigation measures (e.g., social distancing, cleaning and disinfection, hand hygiene, use of masks), addressing social, emotional, and mental health needs of students, addressing potential learning loss, and preparing for the probability of COVID-19 cases within the broader school community.

Schools provide more than just academics to children and adolescents. In addition to reading, writing and math, students learn social and emotional skills, get exercise, and have access to mental health support and other services that cannot be provided with online learning. For many children and adolescents, schools are safe places to be while parents or guardians are working.  For many families, schools are where kids get healthy meals, access to the internet and other vital services.

To stay safe, there are a number of steps schools should be taking to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. They include:

Physical distancing: The goal for students and adults is to stay at least 6 feet apart to help prevent the spread of the virus. However, research has found that spacing desks at least 3 feet apart and avoiding close contact may have similar benefits--especially if students wear cloth face coverings and do not have symptoms of illness. Teachers and staff should stay 6 feet apart from other adults and from students when possible. Teachers and staff should also wear cloth face coverings, limit in-person meetings with other adults and avoid areas such as staff lounges.

NB: When possible, schools should use outdoor spaces and unused spaces for instruction and meals to help with distancing. For example, activities like singing, band and exercising are safest outdoors and spread out.

Cloth face coverings & hand hygiene: All children over age 2 years and all adults should wear cloth face coverings that cover the nose and mouth to stop the spread of the virus.  When worn correctly, cloth face coverings are safe to wear for long periods of time such as during the school day.  In addition, frequent hand washing with soap and water is important for everyone.

It is important for teachers to note that the common COVID-19 symptoms among children include fever, headache, sore throat, cough, fatigue, nausea/vomiting, and diarrhea.  However, many children and adults infected with the virus that causes COVID-19 are asymptomatic (meaning they have no signs or symptoms of illness).

The unique and critical role that schools play makes them a priority for opening and remaining open, enabling students to receive academic instruction and support, as well as critical services.

Your Week-End Driving Tip From Our Automotive Department

You wash, wax, and vacuum your car to keep it looking sharp. But have you ever considered cleaning things under the hood? By cleaning your vehicle’s battery terminals, you can actually help the car battery perform stronger, longer! We’ll show you how to clean the terminals and help prevent car battery corrosion in only FIVE steps—with materials you probably already have at home!

5-Step Car Battery Cleaning:

Cleaning your car battery is easy! You will need:

Protective gloves; Baking Soda; Water; Old toothbrush; Rag; Petroleum Jelly

  1. Mix thoroughly, one tablespoon baking soda with a cup of water.
  2. When removing from the bay, first check the battery for swells, leaks or cracks before attempting to clean.
  3. Dip toothbrush into cleaning mix and scrub off the battery terminal.
  4. Wipe everything down with a damp rag, then dry it off with a dry rag and ensure it is completely dry before replacing.
  5. Rub a tiny amount of petroleum jelly onto the terminals, to help lubricate them and prevent further corrosion, then reattach the positive and negative cables to the correct nodes.
    • BRING BACK THE BATTERY

Give the battery a gentle wipe with a cleaning wipe, but avoid getting it wet. Once it is completely dry, replace it in the battery bay and reconnect it, making sure that all connections are tight and secured properly.

Keeping your car battery clean can help get things moving when your car won’t start and battery flow is weak. Staying on top of your battery’s charge is crucial to avoid getting stranded. How to Keep Your Tools in Tip Top Shape

Ensuring that your tools are in good condition is an investment you’ll never regret. While cleaning your tools can be a tiresome process, keeping them stain free and well-maintained can be a rewarding experience as your tools will last longer.

HERE ARE SOME TIPS ON HOW TO CORRECTLY MAINTAIN AND STORE YOUR TOOLS:

HAND TOOLS

  • Soak your tools in hot, soapy water and wipe them completely dry with a cloth.
  • You can also use a wire brush to clean off dirty surfaces and leave the tools to dry. If stored wet, or in a moist environment, they stand a greater chance of developing rust.
  • Ensure that any dirt or grease is removed and store your tools in a clean toolbox.

POWER TOOLS

  • Always double check that your tool is unplugged prior to cleaning.
  • Wipe your tools and materials clean with a cloth after every job, and store them in a clean toolbox.
  • Don’t use a wet cloth, rather use a damp cloth to remove dust.
  • Reach hard-to-clean areas with lightly oiled cotton swabs or other slender tools.
  • Using an air compressor to blow air out of vents and crevices is the best way to remove dirt and dust from inside tools.

GARDEN TOOLS

  • Wash or use a wet cloth to wipe off dust and grease, or soak your tools in soapy water as it will effectively clean the tools.
  • Dry them to prevent moisture buildup which can lead to tools rusting.
  • Wipe or spray tools with oil to prevent drying and cracking and then store them in a clean toolbox or shed.

We care about the way your tools are maintained. If your tools are beyond repair, visit any RAYNEAU store at Corinth (450-7247) Monchy (450-7248) Vide Bouteille (450-7246) or Babonneau (450-5759) branch, or visit our website www.raycip.com. We're always happy to serve you! #ShopRayneau #EverythingUnderOneRoof.
