RAYNEAU STARTS A RENAISSANCE IN THE CONOLIDATED MARKETING OF OECS AGRICULTURAL PRODUCE

The end of the green gold period within the OECS has forced many farmers to diversify to new quick-cash crops. This diversification has also brought with it its challenges which created other issues for these new crop farmers – among these issues – shipping.

The formation of RAYNEAU INDUSTRIES, a newly formed food export business in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, has taken on the task to provide a marketing platform, initially for the farmers of St Vincent and the Grenadines.

The list of commodities, butternut squash, cabbage, callaloo, dasheen, bananas, yams, plantains, ginger, eddoes, and turmeric, on Wednesday, 22nd, March 2023, was exported via container from St. Vincent and the Grenadines to the United States Virgin Islands.

The purchaser in the USVI, Mr. Ferdinand Francis of Francis Commercial Farming, noted that all the commodities arrived in premium condition.

Rayneau Industries has conducted this first trial shipment mainly to gauge the success rate in the quality of the goods transported.  CEO of Rayneau Industries Mr. Rayneau Gajadhar noted that this first success has opened limitless opportunities to the farmers in St. Vincent and the Grenadines and the rest of the OECS. He stated that “We are starting in SVG to work with the farmers to create an export platform that can create excellent someday payment to farmers. Together we will make this work”.

in thanking Mr. Gajadhar for the confidence he has shown in the agriculture sector in SVG, Minister of Agriculture, Hon. Saboto Caesar,  stated, “I have always preached the need for a consolidated marketing platform created through a public/private partnership. This can very well be the start of a renaissance in the consolidated marketing of Windwards agricultural produce. It is a wake-up call to all stakeholders in the agriculture sector to expand production exponentially. Imagine that, we exported cabbage and butternut squash!”

Persons who would like to see this project expand to the other islands are already responding to this initiative with these questions:

1.       So when is St Lucia starting?

2.       This is great news, hope we get our products out of St Lucia

3.       Congratulations to Rayneau and the Vincey Team

In addition to the farmers, the shipment was made possible with the technical support of the Ministry of Agriculture, local shippers, and Alvin “Buffer” Collins. Rayneau Industries is represented locally by Annette Mark former CEO of Invest SVG and Richard Branch former Banker.

You don’t have to break the bank to make your home a happier, more enjoyable place.

The most curious part of reading our blog is that you will discover new passions, and DIY Home Renovations is one of them.

The store of the future blog has put together a few top things you can do this lent season that will keep you busy until Easter. These simple projects will bring about positive changes and upgrades in your home that can increase the property value and save in your energy costs.  Continue scrolling and Happy Easter!

Paint
 – Paint is the easiest way to transform a room or just freshen it up. A quality paint job with the right color will help the rooms in your home look new, clean, and up to date. Whether you know exactly what color and finish you want or don’t know where to start, we can certainly help.

Our Paint team offers expert guidance and advice. Start by visiting Our Paint and Sundries Department

Change Out Light Bulbs
 – It’s a great time to replace light bulbs that have burned out. You should consider switching to LED bulbs. Typically you can save over 80% in energy costs by using LED bulbs- they consume a lot less energy and last for up to 20 years before you would have to replace them so they are virtually maintenance free.

De-clutter & Organize – Make sure all the items in your home have their place in a neatly stored and labeled container. This helps make your life easier and saves you so much time when you need to access these items. There are common areas in the home which tend to serve as storage and become overly stuffed and disorganized such as garages, and closets. These are typically the catchall places for an assortment of household goods. However with some shelving, storage totes, and an organization plan, these areas of your home will be in order and function much better for you.

Install A Kitchen Backsplash
 - A kitchen backsplash can bring color and texture into your design and accent your countertops and cabinets. Or if your kitchen is already full of color, a neutral kitchen backsplash can bring a sleek and elegant look to the room.

Update Your Bathroom

- Making small changes in our bathroom can have a huge impact.
Update your faucet and shower fixtures to something a bit more modern. Paint your bathroom with soothing softer colors like (blue, muted pink, grey, white) to create a relaxing, peaceful atmosphere. Change your bathroom accessories (rug, towels, trashcan, etc) to a new color also.

If you have a question about any of these projects, you can visit our Corinth, Monchy or Vide Bouteille store, call us at 4507247, email us here, or visit us on Facebook or our Website.

THE DRY SEASON IS IDEAL FOR EXTERIOR PAINTING

While we emphasized in our "Go Green With Rayneau" post the need to conserve water this Dry Season, it’s also a time to take on your painting projects at home.

Painting the exterior of your home isn’t the type of job that can be done at any time of the year. After all, you’ve probably never seen anyone up on a ladder, painting away in the dead of the rainy season. So why is it that exterior paint jobs seem to happen only in one part of the year? Hint: it’s not just because nobody wants to spend the day outside painting and have to be frequently interrupted by intermittent showers!

In order for your paint job to turn out perfectly, the weather needs to cooperate. This is because how the paint dries is directly related to the temperature and conditions at the time of application.

Ideally, you want to choose a time that gives you warm, dry days. It’s also a good idea to look at the weather for the few days before and after your painting day. If it rains before you paint, your siding might need a couple of days to fully dry out before painting. The same goes for after the application—you want to make sure it’s not going to pour rain the day after when your paint is still curing.

You also want to be careful of big temperature fluctuations from day to night. If you’ve got perfect temperatures during the day, but then a sudden drop after the sun goes down, the paint will react and won’t cure properly. Again, this could leave you with a less than a smooth surface, with cracking and peeling.

So, what is the ideal weather for exterior painting? The dry season offers up the best weather conditions, with minimal rain and minimal fluctuations in temperature from day to night. This will ensure the paint goes on smoothly and has the chance to dry and cure properly.

WORLD BANK AND EU DELEGATION TOURS VANARD(VENUS) TO ANSE LA RAYE LINK ROAD

Delegates from the EU and the World Bank Group paid a visit to the construction site of the Vanard (Venus) to Anse La Raye Link Road  on Monday, February 27, 2023. This visit formed part of a week-long trip to Saint Lucia for the organizations.

Reconstruction of the Vanard (Venus) to Anse La Raye Link Road is one of the major activities under the Disaster Vulnerability Reduction Project (DVRP). The DVRP is a world bank funded initiative aimed at reducing Saint Lucia’s vulnerability to climate change and extreme weather hazards.

The two organizations collaborated with the government of Saint Lucia on two major infrastructural activities under the DVRP, namely, the Venus/Anse La Raye road rehabilitation project and Piaye Bridge rehabilitation project.

The signing ceremony between officials from Construction and Industrial Equipment (CIE) Ltd and the Government of St Lucia was held on Wednesday, February 16, 2022, .and later the sod-turning ceremony marking the beginning of the reconstruction of the Vanard (Venus) to Anse La Raye Link Road was held on March 10, 2022.

The works on the Vanard (Venus) to Anse La Raye Link Road (SLU-DVRP-VAB-RFB-RDS-01-21) consist of:

  • Earthworks and site clearance
  • Paving works
  • Drainage works and culverts
  • Gabion baskets
  • Concrete works
  • Retaining walls and slope stabilization

For many years the Vanard (Venus) to Anse La Raye link road has provided alternate and important access for commuters between the communities of Millet and Anse La Raye. After Hurricane Tomas in 2010 and the Christmas Eve Trough of 2013, the roadway, although still motorable, is compromised and in need of structural rehabilitation.

The duration of the 8.7 kilometers of roadworks is expected to last twelve (12) months. CIE looks forward to providing the residents of Vanard (Venus) and Anse la Raye with the highest quality of workmanship.
