4 HANDY TIPS ON REPLACING LIGHT BULBS FOR THE FESTIVE SEASON

While a light bulb’s function is fairly simple, choosing a light bulb is anything but. There are so many options available that it can seem overwhelming. Rather than buy a bulb that appears to fit, take the time to figure out which bulb is the right match for your fixture. Here's what you need to know about which light bulb to buy:

Lifespan

Dealing with burnt-out bulbs is becoming less of a routine event and more of an occasional annoyance, thanks to the long lifespans offered by the latest in bulb technology. LED bulbs typically offer a lifespan between 10 and 20 years and are the longest-lasting bulb. CFL bulbs will last for several years, and halogen bulbs typically need to be replaced once every year or two. In contrast, incandescent light bulbs will fizzle after about 1,000 hours of use, with some bulbs lasting slightly longer.

Watts

The amount of energy used by a light bulb is measured in watts. Incandescent bulbs and halogen bulbs have the highest wattage, making them less energy-efficient choices. CFL bulbs use fewer watts, but LED bulbs are the real winner in energy efficiency—an 8 or 9-watt LED bulb emits as much light as a 60-watt incandescent bulb.

Color

The mood and functionality of a room can be impacted by the color of its light bulbs. For any given room you're outfitting, decide whether you prefer a soft white bulb with a yellow hue or a whiter, brighter light (often called a daylight bulb). In between are warm white or bright white bulbs. Choose brighter bulbs for areas where you plan to read or study and softer, yellow-hued bulbs for accent lighting or a warm ambiance.

Type

There are four common types of light bulbs used in homes, however, three of them are currently being phased out due to their lower energy-efficiency.

1 - Incandescent: Once the mainstay of light bulbs, today, incandescents are on the way out and are no longer available in many communities. While inexpensive to purchase, incandescent bulbs use a lot of electricity and don’t last nearly as long as LED bulbs, plus they generate considerable heat during use. Incandescents do work with dimmer switches, however, and give a warm light that many people prefer to the cooler light of a LED bulb.

2 - Halogen: Already banned, halogen bulbs are energy-efficient but not long-lasting. They give off an intense white light that works well in outdoor fixtures.

3 - Compact Fluorescent (CFL): Another type of light bulb that’s now on the way out, CFL bulbs are more energy-efficient than incandescents, but not as efficient as LEDs. CFL bulbs take a few moments to reach their full brightness, which is not quite as bright as the light emitted by a LED bulb.
4 - Light-Emitting Diode (LED): The most popular type of light bulb today is the LED bulb, and for good reason. These bulbs are highly energy efficient, don’t contain mercury, don’t heat up during use, and provide bright light with a slightly cool cast. You’ll find LED bulbs in every size, shape, and color.

100 DAYS TO CHRISTMAS! - SEPTEMBER IS A GOOD TIME TO START SHOPPING YOUR CHRISTMAS DECOR.

It’s hard to believe but September 16th marks 100 days until Christmas, or put another way 14 weekends. You can be certain that the next 100 days will disappear faster than ever and you’ll be sitting down to enjoy your Christmas dinner before you know it. September ushers the Christmas season and the hunt for holiday decorations. As usual, Navita Designs upstairs Rayneau in Vide Bouteille comes to fore for the BEST in Christmas décor. You can take that to the bank!!

It may seem a bit too soon to begin Christmas shopping and most of us probably won’t start it anytime soon (it’s not even Thanksgiving Day yet!) but it is handy to know about Navita Designs and the wide range of Christmas décor which are already on display at the store.

Christmas in September is happening for a few reasons, but one of them certainly is demand. The long and short of it is that Christmastime and the holidays make people happy. Singing joyful songs, spending time with families and decorating your home with Santa Clauses, snowmen and reindeer is just fun.  September is a good time to stock up on all those new stockings and tree ornaments.

We think our customers doing their Christmas shopping in September have the right idea. If you buy early you will have more time to enjoy the festive season and won’t be rushing about the shops in a panic on Christmas Eve. Also, you’ll have paid for your gifts months before and won’t have to fork out as much money when you need it for Christmas parties and extra food and drink (because we always all go overboard at Christmas!).

Navita Designs' store manager Everly, pointed out, that although shoppers usually flock the store during October - just before Jounen Kweyol, there’s actually a really practical reason for their products to roll out in September. It’s about budgeting. She believes that before one kicks off about Navita Designs having Christmas decor on display early, bear in mind that for a lot of people - under pressure to provide - the shopping has to start now, getting a little bit each week or month as they get paid,

In sharing the same sentiment, we believe the “little things” like candies, decorations and lights add up quickly and need to be budgeted for. Shopping Christmas in September makes good sense. A person or family on a lower income might need to spread their purchases across the rest of the year. And we don’t just mean gifts, It's the things you might take for granted as parts of Christmas, like, drinks, decorations and lights.

At the end of the day, rolling out Christmas items in the middle of September isn’t hurting anyone. Don’t like it? Walk away and don’t buy anything! For some people, Christmas in September is fun and for others, it’s a necessary way to make the holidays merry and bright. And if you’re like our staff and the idea of the holidays in September excites you, well that’s a sign you may be in for a Merry Christmas 2021.

So head down to Navita Designs in Vide Bouteille and start your Christmas shopping now. You can also follow us on facebook here and/or InstagramWe can help you, give us a call at (758)731-3800 (758)452-0487. Email at navitadesigns2016@gmail.com

TRUST THE SCIENCE - DECORATING EARLY FOR CHRISTMAS MAKES YOU HAPPIER!

People are getting excited for Christmas earlier and earlier. And we shouldn't hold back anyone's excitement for the holiday time because it's a moment to celebrate friends and family, and spend quality time together.

If you're itching to break out the Christmas lights before Thanksgiving Day,(Monday October 4) go ahead — psychologists say it might make you happier. It’s been reported that people who decorate earlier are simply tapping into the excitement of the holidays before the rest of us — which makes them happier.

Navita inspecting Christmas Tree decor
But what is it exactly about Christmas decorations that trigger those happy hormones? For starters, it’s the bright lights and colours. Chromo therapy, or colour therapy, which is thought to increase energy levels and boost happiness, might be at play. Or maybe it’s just the ambiance in general — who can resist smiling at the sight of a Christmas tree being lit for the first time?

There could be a number of symptomatic reasons why someone would want to obsessively put up decorations early, most commonly for nostalgic reasons, either to relive the magic or to compensate for past neglect. In a world full of stress and anxiety, people like to associate to things that make them happy, and Christmas decorations evoke those strong feelings of the childhood.

For a lot of us, Christmas is a magical time, it’s a time of innocence, and it’s a time of joy, there’s another possible benefit to decorating early, though: The neighbors might think you're friendlier! Research has shown that people interpret Christmas decorations on a home as a cue that the people inside are sociable.

Have your September plans include shopping at Navita Designs, and deck the halls, friend!  Putting up your decorations early can be a real mood-lifter.

7 AFFORDABLE SOLUTIONS TO TAKE CONTROL OF YOUR HOME SECURITY

Burglary and theft are some of the top threats that homeowners face in what should be their safe, personal space. No one deserves to have their home broken into, their valuables lost, and their safety threatened, but property crimes are an unfortunate reality wherever you live.

The fact is, break-ins are crimes of opportunity. Thieves and burglars will either plan to enter your home when it is most vulnerable, such as when no one is home, or it’s simply an easy target because it’s obvious that the door was accidentally unlocked.

The best theft prevention and protection for your loved ones are securing your home. This means limiting access and deterring break-ins, and ensuring that you can easily alert local authorities and apprehend threats the moment they breach your home.

Whether you live in a tight-knit and quiet community or a big city with higher foot traffic and security risks, it pays to take active steps to keep your home safe. Rayneau offers plenty of ways you can protect your home from invasion or burglary.  Here are some of the most effective theft prevention tips to reduce the risk of loss, where it matters most:

1 - Improve Door Security. It is very easy to kick in a solid door that has old hardware. With two kicks in only five seconds, a burglar can destroy the doorjamb and get into your home. A secure entry starts with a solid door and a Grade 1 or Grade 2 deadbolt with a solid 1-in. long throw bolt. Any exterior door that only has a lock in the doorknob isn’t secure. A sturdy screwdriver or small pry bar can quickly bow the doorjamb enough to release the latch.

Prevent break-ins by upgrading and strengthening your deadbolt and lock set - you need to upgrade the deadbolt and lock set plates of your exterior doors.

2 - Reinforce windows with metal bars. It may seem an extreme step, but burglars will often break a small window in order to gain entry. Make it impossible for them to break through by installing safety glass or impossible to squeeze through by installing metal bars. There are plenty of decorative options for metal grills that can make the adjustment both practical and aesthetically pleasing.

3 – IP Cameras. IP security cameras offer many advantages over older, analog systems. They record at a much higher resolution, allowing for a clear image even when zoomed in, with a better field of view. They can also be set to automatically flag certain events, such as motion detection in a certain area of the image. They can also be a good option if you’re away from your home and still need to monitor them. These days, a fairly capable standalone IP security camera can be bought for anything from $75 upwards.

4 - Build a fence. If you don’t have one already, a fence can be an excellent way to keep unwanted visitors off your property.  Open chain-link or ornamental fencing tend to be preferable and are ideally secured into concrete to prevent lifting. Solid fences can be easier to climb and offer thieves a place to hide, though some homeowners prefer them for privacy and noise reduction. You can better secure them by having sharp pointed tops or, if you don’t mind rough barbed wire fencing.

5 - Consider buying a home security system. There are countless features with any security system, and some particularly valuable ones are outdoor motion detectors, sensors at exterior doors, windows, an outdoor alarm to alert other neighbors to an intrusion, and security cameras. Select the features that best fit your needs. Once it’s installed, make it a regular habit to use it.

6 - Install motion sensor lighting around your home, especially at entrances. Shine a spotlight on a potential intruder before he can even touch your doors or windows by adding extra lighting with motion detectors at entrances and especially dark corners of your home. Motion sensor lights are an effective way to increase your home security without spending a fortune on sophisticated alarms and lighting systems.

7 - Get a guard dog.  Aptly named, guard dogs are trusty companions that can look after your property and bark aggressively at trespassers. Hang a ‘beware of dog’ sign outside your home and burglars will think twice about forcing their entry.

REMEMBER TO BE VIGILANT!

Being vigilant outdo the cost incurred if your house is being burglarized. These preventive tips will guarantee to keep your home safe from burglary. A safe home will always be a happy home

SMART HOLIDAY SHOPPING:TIPS FOR MAKING MOST OF YOUR CHRISTMAS BUDGET 🎄

As the festive season approaches, there's no denying the excitement in the air—Christmas lights twinkling, holiday sales popping up ever...
