Choose the Right Paint Brush for Better Results

Though people may spend hours pondering the right paint type and hue for their redecorating project, they often don’t devote enough time to selecting the proper brush for the job. Just as paints are available in a wide array of types, paint brushes also offer an abundance of options.

You may be tempted to make do with a less expensive brush, but the difference in price between an inferior brush and a good-quality one is far outweighed by the ease of application and the superiority of the results. Furthermore, you’ll save money in the long run with a brush that can handle project after project.

All brushes are not created alike. The type of paint used will dictate the best brush for the job. Paint brush bristles (fibers) fall into two general categories: natural bristles and synthetic bristles. Natural-bristle brushes should be used only with oil-based (solvent) products. Do not use natural-bristle brushes with latex (water-based) paint. Natural bristles will absorb the water in latex paint and soften, causing the finish coat of paint to have streaks or other noticeable defects.

Synthetic-bristle brushes are made from man-made materials such as polyester or nylon and are excellent for latex and other water-based products because they hold their shape and resiliency. They are also easy to clean, and their filaments will not soften and become limp. They can also be used for oil-based paints.

Use the right size brush.

It may seem elementary, but using the right size brush will save you time and effort and give you far better results. One-inch brushes are made for trim, shutters, and most touch-ups. Four-inch brushes are designed for painting larger surface areas such as interior walls, paneling, exterior siding, and so on. A project with sharp angles or other unusual surfaces may require an angular brush. Long handles on trim and sash brushes make it easy to reach into hard-to-get places and are good for cutting in (painting edges and corners in preparation for painting with a roller or larger brush).

Checking for quality.

Paint brushes should always be springy, and a good brush will get better with use. Cheap brushes have silky bristles that tend to break easily. On a good-quality brush, at least half the bristles will have split ends (“flags”). These hold more paint and spread it out more uniformly.

To check for quality, hit the brush against your hand and fan the bristles to see if they come out easily. If you’ve decided to use a cheap brush, keep a pair of tweezers handy to immediately pick loose bristles off freshly painted surfaces.

Should You Wash Your Car After it Rains? Your Weekend Tip From Our Auto Department.

Rain can cause more damage to your car than it helps.

As rain falls, it won’t really wash away dirt and grime. It actually does the opposite and makes your cars exterior even dirtier. You might be thinking why not it’s just pure water right? The answer is no. When rain falls, it accumulates pollutants and other contaminates this is called acid rain. When acid rain dries it will leave a thin layer of dirt. On top of that, it even seals the previous dirt and grime trapping it against your paint. Eventually this will destroy your car’s finish. The longer you leave pollutants on your car the more damage it will do to your paint. This will ultimately lead to rusting. Water will seep into cracks and unprotected metal and will rust.

So, you might be wondering what do I do after it rains?

It’s simple: You should detail your car..

It’s best to detail your car immediately after it’s dry. However, that is not always possible. A good rule of thumb is no more than 10 days. When you detail your car, you should apply a ceramic coating or wax. This will help protect your car’s finish by adding a protective layer between your cars paint and rain. This will act as a shield repelling water off your car. Another benefit of applying a wax or a ceramic coating it will make detailing your car in the future easier and less time.

Even though you can’t stop the rain, you can stop the damage rain causes on your car.

It is crucial you detail your car after rain. This will clean your car of all the grime and will help protect your car for the next time it rains. This is why you should detail your car after it rains.

Call or visit us at our stores conveniently located in Corinth (450-7247),Vide Bouteille (450-7246), Monchy (450-7248), and Babonneau(450-5759) for all the car detailing products you need.

The Perfect Car Detailing Package For That Special Dad

There’s nothing in the world that can compare to the look, feel, and smell of a brand new car. Subtle details such as shiny paint, fresh parts without wear, and squeaky clean wheels and tires can make a car look absolutely irresistible. Unfortunately, preserving your car in this pristine condition is next to impossible since driving will undoubtedly diminish the aesthetics of your car. Although there is no way of maintaining your car in perfect condition, there is a considerable difference between a car that has been neglected and one that has been meticulously maintained. Similar to routine vehicle maintenance, regularly detailing your car is a critical aspect of keeping your car in excellent condition.

 Applicator Pad and Detailing Towel

The main reason for routinely car detailing is to preserve the original appearance of your car. A car that has been newly washed and waxed will look great and will continue to shine when routinely taken care of.

Even though a car can never look the same as it once did in a showroom, consistent detailing can help protect your car’s appearance. Detailing your car doesn’t have to be difficult. Simple things such as investing in wax will protect your car’s paint and treating plastic materials with dressing can ensure that they look and feel like they should.

At Rayneau’s Auto Department, we’ve put together an affordable Turtle Wax 6-Piece Car Care package which contains a line of products for the ultimate car detailing experience. The products in the package work together to optimize shine and protection. The Turtle Wax 6-Piece Car Care package puts the products in one accessible kit along with accessories for easy application.

  • Turtle Wax T-238 Scratch and Swirl Remover - 11 oz.
  • Turtle Wax T-136R Express Shine Spray Car Wax - 16 oz
  • Turtle Wax 50576 Quick & Easy Clean & Shine Total Exterior Detailer - 26 fl. oz.
  • Turtle Wax 50655 Inside & Out Protectant - 23 fl. oz.
  • One S.M. Arnold Inc. Detailing Towel
  • One S.M Arnold Inc. Applicator Pads.
Turtle Wax Package.

Scratch and Swirl Remover, Quick & Easy Clean & Shine Total Exterior Detailer, and Express Shine Spray Car Wax all remove imperfections from a car’s exterior and provide ultimate shine and protection, while the  Inside & Out Protectant brings the premium car care line inside of the vehicle to remove stains and protect from future damage.

How to Use

Begin with Turtle Wax T-238 Scratch and Swirl Remover to remove scratches, oxidation, and other imperfections from paint. Wash car thoroughly before use. Shake product well. Apply to one section at a time by hand or machine. Product can be removed with a clean cloth or by rinsing with a strong stream of water.

Next, restore protection with Turtle Wax T-136R Express Shine Spray Car Wax. Completely dry your vehicle. Lightly mist it on one section at a time and wipe with a clean detailing towel. Turn towel over and lightly wipe for a high-gloss shine. Repeat for entire vehicle.

For touch-ups in between washes, use Turtle Wax 50576 Quick & Easy Clean & Shine Total Exterior Detailer. Spray onto a clean surface, one body section at a time, wiping with one side of a clean microfiber or soft terry towel. Use other side of towel and buff to a high-gloss shine.

For interior cleaning, use Turtle Wax 50655 Inside & Out Protectant. Shake well and spray evenly onto surface or onto a lint-free cloth. Wipe in a sweeping motion until clean. Turn cloth over and dry.

RAYNEAU ADVANCES CONSTRUCTION ON THE NEW MARIGOT HOSPITAL, DOMINICA

Rayneau Gajadhar’s CIE Ltd is progressing very well with the construction of the new climate-resilient, smart hospital in the community of Marigot. The 40,000 square feet two-floor hospital will have a 75-bed capacity, as well as a wide range of essential services and modern state-of-the-art facilities.

Our readers will recall that in our blog dated May 5, 2020 we mentioned  “Wednesday [April 29] CIE completed a million-dollar pour - the largest amount of concrete [1000 cubic yards] at any one time, in the country, on the Marigot Hospital.” This pour was done on the ground floor of the building.

Friday June 12, 2020, marked the commencement of another milestone in the construction of the new hospital. Another massive 1000 cu, yds. of concrete was poured to cast the first floor. The task was completed the following day - Saturday.

The slideshow below shows the preparatory works that have been undertaken over the weeks that made Friday’s pour a success.

What is even more striking is the confidence and trust the government and people of Dominica have placed in Mr Gajadhar’s Company. These sentiments are echoed in Prime Minister Skerritt's recent statements – “I want to specifically recognize the contractor Rayneau who has been maintaining high quality and high professionalism on the site – one can see it, and taking into consideration the safety of all those who work here and all who come on the site. I want to commend Rayneau for this.”

The construction of the hospital is fully funded by the Citizenship by Investment (CBI), while the Government of Mexico is granting US$5 million towards medical equipment.

The project is envisaged to be completed within 12 months.

The Hurricane Season Officially Starts Today! Be Prepared?

You take the good with the bad. A fact of life that is all too true in relation to summer weather. While Mother Nature can spoil us with her bright sunny days and warm breezes, she still manages to let us know who’s in charge now and then. While the temptation may be to enjoy the nice days to their fullest, it may also be prudent to make good use of those days and prepare for the hurricane season that officially starts today.

While there are many levels of preparedness that homeowners can practice, we’ll cover some tips which should give the most bang for the buck.

High winds and water can take a toll on your home’s roof. Loosened shingles/galvanize can be easily fixed and will save a lot in costly repairs down the road. Look for problems along the roof’s edge and on the gable ends. If you find any loose shingles/galvanize, purchase a couple tubes of roofing cement/nails and secure.

High winds can force water into gaps where it normally would not penetrate. To avoid water damage, seal all visible gaps with exterior caulk. Look for common areas such as openings for pipes, wires and conduit on your home’s exterior. Also seal around electrical boxes, and lighting.

If you know a storm is eminent, take a look at your home’s surroundings. What might seem harmless now, can become a projectile in a high wind situation. Secure patio furniture, toys and garbage cans, for example. Inspect the trees in your yard for dead or dying branches. It is best to take them down on your own terms, rather than wait for them to cause injury or damage to home and property.

Consider operable shutters and impact resistant windows for your home. In many cases, having them installed can give the additional benefit of reduced insurance costs. You may also want to consider replacing your roof vents with newer, wind resistant models.

Reserve a space in your home (or even install a cabinet) for the specific purpose of storm preparedness. You can use it to store flashlights, batteries, candles, bottled water and dried fruit for use during emergencies. A battery operated radio is another good thing to keep in there. Just in case, it may be a good idea to keep a copy of your homeowner’s insurance paperwork in a watertight container and tuck it in your cabinet, as well.

With our reliance on power for so many aspects of our lives, consider purchasing/renting a generator from Rayneau Rentals and Sales to keep your home’s vital systems running during a power outage.

The old, “ounce of prevention/pound of cure” adage definitely applies when it comes to hurricanes. For all of your home preparedness needs, we’re here to help. Stop in and ask our knowledgeable staff and we’ll do all we can to help you weather this season.

#ShopRayneau for all your hurricane supplies. Call or visit us at our stores conveniently located in Corinth (450-7247),Vide Bouteille (450-7246),Monchy (450-7248), and Babonneau(450-5759).
