October is the Best Time to Start Preparing for Christmas!

Even if you are not the biggest fan of the festive season, it pays to be prepared for it. At Rayneau, we are here to show you how to prepare for Christmas early, without breaking a sweat. Preparation is more than half the battle in our opinion. If you know how to prepare for Christmas early, like, well in advance, then by the time the big day rolls around, you will be more chilled than a turkey in January.

With October just a few days away, the festive season will be here before you know it. Planning ahead is the best way to save money, headaches, and even your sanity!

Have your family/friends already started having the “Christmas Chat?” Who’s going to host? Where is it going to be? Who is being invited? What are you getting for so-and-so? And so on. If you leave everything till the last minute, or even till just approaching Christmas, you could find yourself stressed out, unhappy, panicking and not even looking forward to the most wonderful time of the year.
We can’t help it. We love Christmas. As such, knowing how to prepare for Christmas early is practically in our blood. The very simple way to start is to make a list. Once you have a list, everything is so much more manageable. Advance holiday planning truly puts you in charge, and can help alleviate all those unpleasant things that can come with Christmas if you don’t prepare early; stress, debt, and chaos!

Are you going shopping early? Well then, visit our hardware stores conveniently in Corinth  450-7247, Vide Bouteille 450-7246, Monchy 450-7248 or Babonneau  450-5759 as we have all you need in preparation for the Holiday Season.

Making Your Washroom More Energy-Efficient

When it comes to energy use in your home, Felix, our customer service representative in the Plumbing Department says, "...only the kitchen rivals the washroom."  He continues, "If your home has more than one washroom, the energy use can increase even more. Large amounts of heat, water and lighting are used in the washroom every day, by every member of the household."
Energy-saving showerhead
Obviously, it would be a benefit to both the environment and every homeowner’s wallet if considerations were taken to improve the energy efficiency of the washroom. Knowledgeable individuals have estimated that if you were to upgrade your washroom(s) with energy efficient fixtures (sinks, toilets and showerheads) thousands of  gallons of water and hundreds of dollars’ worth of energy costs would be saved.

Below are some basic things we at Rayneau recommend you can do to make your washroom more energy efficient:

Repair Problems
Just by fixing leaky faucets, showers and tubs, you can save big. If it’s the hot water that is leaking, the energy loss is magnified. Don’t forget toilets, either. If your flush valve is allowing water to seep through, or you’ve encountered the dreaded “jiggle the handle” syndrome, it’s a good idea to replace some the those internal parts. Repair kits are readily available and easy to install. A constant loss of water can add up and increase you water bill immensely.
Energy-saving light bulbs
Enhance what you have
Even if your washroom is in tip-top shape, there’s probably a lot you can still do to make it more efficient. Without tearing things apart and getting into major expenses, you can make small, simple changes to the things you already have. For example, install a low-flow showerhead or add flow restrictors to your faucets. A new efficient showerhead can reduce your water use from 2 ½ gallons per minute to 1 ½ gallons per minute.

For lighting, consider CFL or LED  lights. Contact our customer sales representative in our Electrical department for information on a wide range on energy-saving bulbs.
Dual-flush toilet
Replace
If it’s time for an upgrade, make yourself aware of the variety of energy efficient choices available. Look for products that bear the WaterSense logo and you’ll be confident that you’re on the right track. Traditional toilets can use from 3 ½ to 7 gallons per flush versus newer efficient models that average 1.6 gallons per flush. Dual-flush toilets are another smart choice.

Modify routines
Finally, even the most efficient bathroom can be used inefficiently. To maximize your energy savings, consider showers over baths, turning off water while brushing teeth or shaving. Sometimes modifying habits can make a huge difference. Still, if you can’t get the kids in the habit of turning the light off when they’re finished, a motion detector switch will get the job done.

CIE Ltd Sets High Construction Standards in the British Virgin Islands

Newly restored Elmore Stoutt High School
“Today is indeed a special day. It is a beautiful day; it’s a day of celebration.” the guest speaker at the ceremony blasted out as she made her opening remarks at the handing over ceremony of the Elmore Stoutt High School in the British Virgin Islands on Friday September 6, 2019 under the theme ‘Let There Be Light … Elmore Stoutt High School Shining Bright”

In attendance were the Governor and deputy, the Premier and deputy, Ministers of Government, Permanent secretaries, senior officials of the government, the clergy, the contractors and distinguished guests.

The guest speaker continued,“My job this afternoon is to extend words of welcome to everyone who are in attendance in what can be described the triple celebration. One songwriter wrote,  As I look back over my life and I look things over I can truly say that I have been blessed, I have a testimony.”

In paraphrasing the quote from a songwriter the guest speaker explained, “As we as a territory look back over the two years and we think things over we can truly say that we have been blessed and we have many testimonies. Today is one of these testimonies.”

The whole purpose of this ceremony according to the guest speaker was
  1.  To thank the goodness of God for celebrating the second anniversary on the passing of hurricane Irma.
  2.  To celebrate a major milestone in the recovery process – the completion of the L-shaped building on the Elmore Stoutt High School Campus.
  3. To honour veteran educator Lillian Adorothy Turnbull by renaming the L-shaped building at the Elmore Stoutt High School in her honour.

  4. On April 19, 2019 we posted a blogpost where we mentioned the contract which CIE Ltd had  just been awarded. Today we are elated to report that the project is completed and much praise and accolades have been bestowed on Mr Rayneau Gajadhar and by extension CIE Ltd for outstanding quality of workmanship.
Avinash Chavan
CIE Ltd engineer Avinash  Chavan who represented CIE Ltd  at the ceremony, gave a short statement before receiving a plaque.  He said, “I thank all of you especially the premier and Mr Glasgow for giving us an opportunity to work on this project. On behalf of Construction and Industrial Equipment Ltd, I express my sincere gratitude and I wish all the best of everyone involved in this project. Thank you.”

A plaque was received by Avinash on behalf of CIE Ltd. A $10,000 donation which was promised by the company on the completion of the school will be wired to the Government via the country’s Accountant General at a later date. The funds are in support for the continued development of the school.
                                                                Video excerpts from Ceremony
Praise was showered on CIE team by a fellow contractor who partnered with the company during the restoration process. “…..I would like to thank them [CIE Ltd] for the resources they provided to me. I have learnt a lot working with them. They have done things in manners and principles I did not even dream about, in terms of capacity, financing, planning and everything like that. I have learnt a lot and I would like to say thanks to Mr Rayneau and CIE for participating in this project with me.”

The school was damaged over two years ago by hurricane Irma. This new school year the school is fully operational. Thanks to CIE Ltd team and partner contractors who delivered the project on time and within budget.

7 Tips to Bring Out the Best in Your Child this New School Year!

It’s tempting to block out the thought that the summer holidays have officially ended and school opens on September 2, 2019 (tomorrow). At Rayneau we feel obliged to share a few tips with you on helping your child to a successful new school year. Just as we cherish our customers so do we with their children. Back to school time can be a hectic time for both you and the kids.

We take it that you have already:
  1. Visited the school
  2. Learnt about the school’s entrance and exit policies.
  3. Visited the doctor for your child's physical and eye exam
  4. Bought all the child's school books and supplies
Here are some of our best back to school tips to help ensure this school year gets off to a great start!

Introduce yourself to your teacher’s child
It’s always nice to start the year by introducing yourself to your child’s teacher. The more you can learn what the teacher will expect of your child at the start of the year, the better you can help your child meet these expectations during the next nine months. Ask him or her about the preferred method of communication. (Some teachers are active on email and social media, while others prefer the phone or in-person meetings.)

Make Homework a priority
Make homework time a daily habit. Find a quiet and consistent place at home where your child can complete his or her homework. If your child is having difficulty with his or her homework, make an appointment with the teacher sooner rather than later.

Prepare a study area
Set up a special place at home to do school work and homework. Remove distractions. Make it clear that education is a top priority in your family: show interest and praise your child’s work.

Regulate tv/computer time
Limit the time that you let your child watch TV, and when you do decide to do TV time, make it a family affair. Talk together about what you see and ask questions after the show ends.

Set up routine sleep/wake time
During the summer, children aren’t always on a schedule, which is understandable. But, proper rest is essential for a healthy and productive school year. Help your kids get back on track sleep-wise by having them go to bed earlier and wake up earlier during this first week of school.

 Prepare healthy meals
Let’s face it – no one can concentrate when they’re hungry. Studies show that children who eat healthy, balanced breakfasts and lunches do better in school. Fix nutritious meals at home, and, if you need extra help, contact the principal at the school about the school’s feeding program.

Read to your child everyday
Make a plan to read with your child for at least 20 minutes every day. Your example reinforces the importance of literacy, and reading lets you and your child explore new worlds of fun and adventure together.

Paying attention to these few tips now as the school year begins will help keep your child learning smoothly during the school year, even if there are a few bumps in the road.

Happy Back to School!
