Home Repairs You Must Never Put-off!

Life gets busy and sometime the “to do” list never becomes the “have done” list. We’d be willing to bet the anything that many of you have one or more home repairs on your to do list.
Sometimes home repairs can be put on the back burner for a little while when life gets in the way. But there are a few areas of home repair that need to be addressed right away. If left unchecked, some of these repairs can rack up a much larger price tag!
ROOF LEAK
There is an argument to be made for stating that your roof is the most important element of your home. You need a secure and sturdy roof to keep you, your family, and your possessions safe and dry. A damaged roof can lead to damage in all areas of your house. The goal is to find leaks before the entire roof goes bad or the water starts seeping into your ceiling and walls.
Rotting galvanize or missing shingles are an obvious indicator that you have a problem. Another way to spot leaks is to look for dark spots in the ceiling. Also, debris on a roof can cause some pretty significant problems to your roofing system if not removed promptly. Roof debris can lead to leaks, roof rot, and can even be a fire hazard. Don’t delay on removing these items.
FOUNDATION PROBLEMS
Without a proper foundation, a variety of structural issues can plague a home that could end up being very costly to repair. Foundation problems can plague any home, new or old. Telltale signs of foundation problems are cracks in the exterior, sloping floors, bulging walls, floor cracks, and doors and windows that do not open or latch properly.
MOLD and MILDEW
If you don’t take care of moisture, it will very soon grow into a much larger problem. That problem is mold. If you know you have had a water leak, you need be vigilant about keeping watch for signs of mold. Damp or wet building materials or furnishings that are not cleaned and dried within 24 to 48 hours are prone to mold growth. Visible mold growth or mold odor can also be a sign that there is a much larger mold colony growing hidden away from view.
Unfortunately, in these areas it can take very little time for a minor issue to become major damage. Rayneau Rentals and Sales has the tools and equipment you need to keep up with all the home repairs on your to-do list for your home. Come see us or give us a call, our expert rental professionals are happy to answer any questions you may have

3 DIY Projects That's Worth Your Time and Money

It is never a bad idea or a bad time to invest in your home and capitalize on the benefits of home improvement. But sometimes DIYers have to ask themselves, “Is this really worth my time?”  When is it smart to DIY and when is it time to outsource? We want to suggest three DIY projects that give you a great return on the investment of your time and your money.

It’s DIY Time!

·         Painting – One of the easiest ways to freshen up your home inside and out is by painting. It is incredibly simple, yet produces a huge impact. To make the job a little easier, rent some scaffolding or a lift to paint the exterior of your home. You can also rent a paint sprayer for interior walls, ceilings, fences, or a deck.

·         Updating Fixtures and Hardware – This is an easy DIY update that can make a huge difference. Think about updating plumbing fixtures, door knobs, or cabinet hardware in the kitchen or bathroom. Throw in some can or recessed lighting to brighten the place up, maybe even add a dimmer switch!  The possibilities are endless to add some uniqueness to your home in this area.

·         Adding Curb Appeal – Curb appeal is always in fashion! The quickest way to boost your curb appeal is to make your property sparkle with a pressure washer rental.  And let’s not forget about the landscaping. Healthy looking, weed free trimmed grass, clean lines around walkways and flower beds, and trimmed bushes and trees will set the foundation for a great looking property. Then try to mix things up with a variety of plants that will bloom at different times in the season.

If you have DIY projects on your to-do list that you are wanting to complete, come see us at Rayneau Rentals and Sales. We can make sure you have best tool for the job. We also have the expertise you need to get all your questions answered.

Rent Painting Equipment to Make Your New Paint Job Cost Effective

Now that summertime is drawing near, it is time to start up your outdoor home maintenance projects that you have on your list for the year.  If painting your home is on the list, you have two main options – you can either hire painters to come in and complete the task or make it a DIY project.  Your decision will rest largely on the amount of money and time that you have available, as well as your experience level.  If you decide that you want to make it a DIY job, you will need access to the best painting tools that will allow you to complete the task quickly and effectively, all while saving you money.

While a DIY painting job can save you money, it can be even more cost effective if you go about it in a smart way.  For example, rather than purchasing all of the painting tools, consider painting equipment rentals.  This alternative allows you to save money, since renting the equipment is much cheaper than purchasing it.  Another thing to consider is the fact that painting equipment rentals allows you to own less, thus you have fewer possessions to care for, which frees up space and time and gives you the chance to spend your time experiencing life with those you care for the most.  Really, the only reason to consider purchasing rather than renting is if you intend on turning your house painting skills into a business.

The process for completing a DIY painting project is fairly simple.  First, determine how much paint you will need.  Next, select the colors you want to use. (Contact Sebastien, our paint expert at Rayneau)  Then, come in and check out our painting equipment rentals, such as airless sprayers, and get instructions from us on how to use them properly.  Fourth, take all of your supplies home.  Fifth, paint away, and call us if you have any questions.
If you are ready to learn more about how easy it can be to complete a DIY house painting job this summer, contact us at Rayneau Rentals and Sales. We have all of the painting equipment rentals you could possibly need.

REPLACE THOSE BROKEN TILES BEFORE EASTER

Easter is round the corner and the broken tiles in the kitchen, living room or bathroom are a real eye-sore. You’ve decided to replace them before Easter Holidays sets it. Here are a few tips on how to do it

Replacing Broken Tiles
Replacing a cracked tile, whether on the wall or floor, is easier than you think.

1  -  The first thing to do is to break the cracked tile out of its position. Working from the centre, use a hammer and cold chisel or a large nail, to break the tiles up into small shards (wear eye protection!) and then prise them out one by one. Be careful not to damage adjacent tiles.

2  -  Chip out as much of the tile adhesive as you can and carefully scrape away any grout adhering to the surrounding tiles.

3  -  Once you have cleaned the area thoroughly (and removed any lose material – use a vacuum if necessary), loop a length of string around the replacement tile and place it into position.

It Fits? Great!
It will lie lower than the surrounding tiles at this stage because you still have to add the adhesive, so don’t worry. Mix up an adequate amount of tile adhesive to make a thick paste and lay a bed of it across the surface.
Now Comes The Crafty Bit

Looping the string around the tile, about 20 mm from one side, ease the tile into position and press it down. If it sinks below the level of the surrounding tiles, you’ll need to add a little more adhesive but if it’s standing proud, you’ll have to remove some. This is where the string comes in as it allows you to easily pull the tile off of the adhesive. Once satisfied, centre the tile in the space and gently remove the string.

Grout Stuff!
Here’s the easy part: Mix about a tablespoon full of grout to a thick paste and go mad! Spread it liberally across each join, pushing it in to fill. Then use a tissue or dry clean cloth to remove the excess and the tip of your finger to create great joins. Incidentally, you’ll give the tiles a great clean as you complete the job.

At Rayneau we can provide you with all the materials listed below to complete your tiling project

5 Reasons Why Choosing the Right Size Heavy Equipment Rental for Your Project is Important!

If you’re an independent general contractor, you probably have, at the very least, the most useful and basic tools in your tool kit and truck, including power saws, a nail gun, hammers, screwdrivers and more. However, you may not own large construction equipment due to a lack of storage space or the fact that you simply don’t need it for every job. Instead, you might rent it when you need it.

Before you do, here’s why it’s important to choose the right size heavy equipment rental for your project:

1  -  Get the job done right
Selecting the right construction equipment is essential when you have a job (or several) on the schedule, but it’s especially important for big jobs. Bigger jobs require more time to complete, so having the right equipment right off the bat is a must to avoid losing time and money. Not all construction vehicles and equipment have a universal purpose, plus the equipment operator needs to know how to properly use the machine to ensure safety and efficiency. Get the right heavy equipment rental, and get the job done right.

2  -  Get jobs done in less time
When you choose the equipment rentals you actually need, you can turn a large and labor-intensive job into one that’s relatively quick and simple. This is thanks in part to the equipment—such as backhoes, excavators, bulldozers or other pieces—that can replace manual labor for many job tasks. Using a heavy work vehicle like a forklift, when controlled by a trained operator, is a safer and faster way to lift oversize or bulky materials.

3  -  Reduces the rental time
How long you get to keep the rental depends on the agreement you made with the equipment rental company. By choosing the exact piece of heavy equipment you need from the start, you can avoid paying for extra rental time. The right rental is also likely to increase productivity. Furthermore, it can do the job in a timely manner, while the wrong size tools and equipment can take more time, or not be capable of completing the job at all.

4  -  Less chance of problems
A stump grinder that is too big to get into the work area comfortably, an excavator that’s too small for the project at hand—these are examples of issues you can run into when renting the wrong size construction machines and equipment for a job. On the other hand, rent the right size pieces and you’ll reduce the chance of damage to the equipment or portions of the worksite.

5  -  Get the most bang for your buck
Bringing a rented machine to your project that is not the right size could mean having to exchange it for a different one—but it’s likely that you’ll have to pay for the time you had it in your possession. To get the best bang for your buck, scout out the job site ahead of time so you know the exact size and type of equipment that’ll work best.

These 3 Uses Make Generators Can't-Do-Without Machines

Can you remember the last time you were in the middle of an event, and suddenly the lights go out? Has the power gone out, and you are stuck with no lighting? Most of us have had to handle situations like these and most of the time, it is pretty inconvenient. At Rayneau Rentals and Sales, we can provide generators that make last minute “uh-ohs” into in-the-moment “saves.”

Generators come in a variety of sizes and can power a range of different sized objects, from light bulbs to jacuzzis. Keep your family feeling safe even in the harshest storms by keeping the necessities on and keeping some of the other household comforts on, too.

Here are three uses of generators that make them essential items.

1  -  On the Work-site – If you’ve got a construction project, power tools are your go-to resource. Unfortunately, if your site doesn’t have enough electricity or your power tools are running on battery power, having one or more generators can help you recharge. That’s a time and stress-saver.

2  -  Backup Power –If you’ve got a big event planned or if you are in the hurricane season, having a  generator at the ready can make a big difference in your preparedness for anything that comes. For business owners, generators equal less business downtime if the power goes out. When all the other shops on the block are forced to close due to no power, you can keep right on running and making money..Your home can have power if something goes awry.

3  -  Outdoor Activities – Whether you are planning a beach/river party, "blocko" or going camping, generators are a great option to make sure you have backup power. You can provide that extra “nightlight” or hook up when you’re off the grid so electricity is easily available when you need it.

At Rayneau Rentals and Sales, we carry a variety of generators that are perfect for many uses at home or on the job site. Give us a call  and 450-7368, checkout us out on FaceBook  or stop in  at our Vide Bouteille  store to inquire about renting a generator so you can be worry-free.
