CAYE MANJE/BEAUSEJOUR ROADWORKS NEAR COMPLETION AHEAD OF ICC T20 WORLD CUP IN ST LUCIA

With just one week remaining before the commencement of the highly anticipated ICC Cricket World Cup, the Caye Manje/BeauseJour road project is approaching its final stages and is poised for completion. Construction and Industrial Equipment (CIE) Limited, the entity responsible for the roadworks, is diligently advancing towards the completion of the extensive rehabilitation in preparation for the International Cricket Council (ICC) T20 World Cup Tournament, which is set to begin in St. Lucia this weekend.

Extensive Roadworks Nearing Completion

Rayneau Gajadhar, Chief Executive Officer of CIE Ltd, reports that the roadworks are approximately 80% complete. In preparation for hosting six ICC Cricket World Cup games from June 15th, the project is centered on optimizing the points of entry and exit to the cricket grounds.

Mr. Gajadhar elucidated that the project encompasses the ring road encircling the stadium and the Caye Manje Road. This alignment with the ICC Cricket World Cup schedule is fortuitous, as the Caye Manje/Gros Islet Road was already slated for upgrades.

Comprehensive Scope of Work

The scope of work for this project is both extensive and impressive. It includes road widening along Caye Manger, the construction of kerb walls, retaining walls, and drainage systems, all meticulously planned. Additionally, site clearance, milling, and paving works from the Caye Manger gap to the Gros Islet Fire Station underscore CIE Ltd’s commitment to excellence.

Mr. Gajadhar noted that the preparations involved applying a regulating coat of asphalt on the roads. This layer will remain in place for approximately two months, after which any imperfections will be assessed and the final paving will be completed.

Focused Attention on the Stadium's Perimeter

The section of road within the stadium’s immediate perimeter does not necessitate extensive work. Consequently, only remedial repairs will be undertaken to ensure it is in optimal condition for the World Cup matches. Mr. Gajadhar explained that the work around the stadium involves targeted remedial efforts, particularly in the more damaged areas, which will be completed in time for the Cricket World Cup.

Prime Minister's Upcoming Tour

Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre is scheduled to tour the cricket grounds on Friday to evaluate the progress of the roadworks.
