IN SPITE OF A TEMPORARY STOPPAGE, RICHMOND QUARRY IS ON STREAM - MACHINERY SHIPPED IN!

Accessing the newly constructed pier/jetty that Mr. Gajadhar had given assurances to construct to accommodate pleasure craft and fishing vessels, Rayneau Group of Companies has started hauling machinery for the operation of the Richmond Quarry.

It was a sight to behold as residents observed container after container being driven off the pier to the quarry site.

Although work had stopped momentarily, it recently restarted at the site where the crew is just preparing to do a layout of where the plant is going to be located. "The preparation of this platform would take between 40,000 and 60,000 cubic yards of material," Mr. Gajadhar said.

This platform is where the first part of the crusher is going to fit. So the majority of the crews are occupied with doing that now.

                   Off-loading machinery at the pier

For a few months last year, preparation works at the Richmond Quarry had actually stopped - nothing was happening.  Mr. Gajadhar, CEO of Rayneau Group of Companies was of the opinion that many of the issues that sprung to life in the beginning, were caused by politics. “People must understand that politicians do things that are in their best interest and [sometimes] not in the interest of the people,” Referring to the stands taken by the opposition leader, Dr. Godwin Friday who called on the government to halt the quarry project.

Further, the opposition had tabled a motion in Parliament to suspend work on the quarry. But in May, Parliament voted against the motion brought by Leader of the Opposition, Godwin Friday.

Back in September last year Gajadhar told a media outlet that he gave everyone [Farmers] the time to remove their produce, and when he returns he will do what is to be done to push the operations forward as there is much preparation work to be done before the mining process takes place.

 Rayneau Construction Limited has a leasehold for 30 years and has made an investment of 30 million dollars in the first instance.

PARLIAMENTARY REP PLEASED WITH ONGOING REHAB WORKS IN HIS CONSTITUENCY

Construction and Industrial Equipment(CIE) Ltd is impacting the lives of residents in numerous communities of Bellevue and Vieux Fort North which is represented by Moses Jn Baptiste. The company continues on its road rehabilitation program that commenced in the last quarter of last year.

"These roads have been in a poor state for years...,I am happy to see that something is now being done, Jah!" echoes a resident. "Rayneau is doing a great job, and he has employed many of our people to do the work. This is very nice of him." A young lady remarked as she passed by. 

Out of the eleven roads that were down for repairs, CIE has completed over 85% of the project, with just the Pierrot New  Road Connection and the Campeche road yet to be completed.

 Throughout the rehabilitation project, the works entailed the construction of:

• Curb and slipper
• Concrete drains
• Swales
• Culverts
• Retaining walls
• Residents' entrance and driveway
• Road surface with asphalt and/or concrete.

 Recently, Vinay, the works supervisor,  and engineer responsible for the Vieux Fort North project graced this blog with a tour to  observe the ongoing and completed work on four of the community roads, namely:

1. Pierrot playing field to the main road (completed)

2 . Pierrot gap new road connection (completed)

3 . Pierrot gap loop road (completed)

4. Pierrot new road connection (under construction)

Throughout the tour, we witnessed different crews at work and the quality of work appears to be at a very high standard. As for the Pierrot new road connection about 30 - 40 m of drainage and paving are needed for completion whereas on the Campeche road works are ongoing.

The Parliamentary Representative in no uncertain terms using his social media platform expressed thanks to his government and went on to acknowledge the high-quality work that CIE has been outputting in his constituency.  " I want to thank the government of St Lucia, I want to thank the Honorable Prime Minister, Philip J Pierre, I want to thank the contractor  CIE for the work here....," The Rep remarked. 

He continued, " The people of Bellevue and Vieux Fort North have suffered with poor road conditions for a very long time, and this is the first package of roads we are trying to improve in Vieux Fort North....."
