SOLUTIONS FOR STOPPING ROOF LEAKS NOW!

The rains last weekend must have been an eye-opener for many homeowners – the heavy downpours found the cracks and crevices in their roofs and they had to be finding buckets and pans to catch dripping water from their ceilings. Changes in temperature as well as extreme weather can also cause expansion and contraction in roofing and will result in cracks and leaks over time.

No one wants to go running for a bucket every time it rains. Because the hurricane season brings heavy, windblown downpours, this season is often the one when leaks become apparent. Keep an eye out for the following problem areas to avoid the need for buckets.

Degraded shingles. Eventually, roofing shingles will dry out and wear to the point that they can no longer keep water out. Roof leaks that happen during heavy rains may indicate the end of the shingles’ life.

Metal corrosion. Cracks in metal and corrosion around fasteners can create enough space for water to leak. Over time, expansion and contraction can loosen the seams in a metal roof. This wear and tear may also lead to leaks.

At Rayneau we’re offering a list of proven solutions which are guaranteed to solve your roof leak problems:-

Ames' Maximum-Stretch - is a top elastomeric liquid rubber roof coating. It is designed for maintaining and waterproofing many different types of roofing systems.. Maximum-Stretch is an elastomeric roof sealant. This roof coating is up to 98% reflective, which helps you keep your building cooler and saves on cooling costs.

RAYNEAU GROUP OF COMPANIES LTD PRESENT AWARDS TO CASTRIES NORTH YOUTH EXPO ASPIRING ENTERPRENEURS

On Saturday June 18, 2022, at the La Clery Community Centre, Rayneau Group of Companies Ltd presented over $20,000.00 to aspiring young entrepreneurs from the Castries North Constituency, as an incentive to further their entrepreneurial skills and talents showcased at the Youth Expose which was held earlier this year.At Saturday’s presentation ceremony, Parliamentary Representative, Hon. Stephen king, officials of Rayneau Group of Companies Ltd, Mr. Gajadhar and Mr. Clauzel, Deputy Castries City Mayor, Tandi Floyd, media crew from Ministry of Infrastructure and Ports Services, and representatives of the Castries North Youth Council and other invited guests were present.

These young business persons at Saturday’s ceremony, while at the Youth Expo, which was held at the La Clery Playing field on May 29, 2022, were given the opportunity to showcase their talents and products. During the ceremony, the aspiring young entrepreneurs were handed certificates and monetary incentives from Mr. Gajadhar and the Hon Stephenson King.

Mr. Gajadhar, CEO of Rayneau Group of Companies, who was out of the island at the time, hearing about this youth expo, immediately .directed the Executive Director of the company, Mr. Anselm Clauzel, to find out more about this initiative.  Mr. Clauzel’s report must have impressed Mr. Gajadhar, as the latter in a phone call to the Parliamentary Representative, Hon. Stephen King, pledged to donate $1000.00 to every participant.

Mr. Gajadhar has always shown great interest in the development of youth in this country and Mr. Clauzel, in his short remarks made mention of Gen-X, a past program with the same concept expressed at the Youth Expo. “In 2010, twelve years ago, Rayneau came up with an idea called the GEN-X……GEN_X program, and what he did in that program, [are] similar, we looked for young people with innovative ideas, and at the time, he put in the pool $50,000.00 towards that program twelve years ago.  And out of that program. I was amazed on that Sunday to see one of the participants who got a contribution during that time, Serita Alcee, her daughter was actually one of the participants. And so it gives us great joy to see that even right now the other generation is already coming up.”  Clauzel remarked.

Hon Stephenson King, Parliamentary Representative for Castries North Constituency, gave the genesis of the Youth Expo. He went on to give credit to Mellissa Moses and her team for the idea and initiative.

The Rep went on to thank Mr. Gajadhar for his contribution and for coming forward to sensitize these upcoming entrepreneurs. He went on, “I want to thank Mr. Gajadhar for having heard of the initiative, and having discussed the incentives with him, he was able to send a scout around, to scout, to see what is being produced, to see the talent, to see the initiative, to look at the ideas, and to himself, come forward and say I want to do more….”

Referring to the entrepreneurs, he says, “But this must be an incentive today – an incentive to give you an encouragement to move on with your ideas not to give up, but to move forward and know that there are people who are willing if you demonstrate the passion. Of you demonstrate the skill, the true intention, and if you have the discipline it calls for in business, to move on with your business. This is what this is all about.”

Mr. Gajadhar’s remarks were bent on motivating the young entrepreneurs and giving them the courage to move on and succeed. The CEO began his remarks by relating to the attentive audience how he got wind of the Castries North Constituency Youth Expo and how he ended up making the promise to the Parliamentary Representative - thanks to Christopher Hunte’s marketing prowess.

But apart from the promised $1000.00 for each of the 16 participants, M.r Gajadhar had a few surprises up his, sleeves. “In terms of what I can do again, I was thinking [that] apart from the $1000.00  I agreed to give, I also agreed with the team that they should elect three people that I will give an additional incentive,” Mr. Gajadhar announced. The three special prizes were awarded to Shorvanie J. Leon - $1500.00, Annce A. Reece - $1000.00, and Chelsey Alcee - $500.00.

L-R: Ms.Reece, Ms Alcee and, Ms Leon,

“How can we move forward, I heard the Minister ask,  and what we can do?,” was the question posed by Mr., Gajadhar to the participants. He continued, “Now that you have participated without looking for anything in return, what can I give you in return?  And I started thinking of what I can give to motivate you even more. I need you to keep the accounts of what you're doing and the profits that you make at the end of the first year, I will give 50% of the profit back.” (Thunderous applause)

Expo Highlights - Credits: Courtesy - Christopher Hunte

This gesture Mr. Gahadhar says is to motivate the participants to do well and be profitable and to encourage them to keep proper accounts.

Mr. Gajadhar took a moment from his remarks to thank his wife, although not being too well, found the strength to get out of bed to sign the cheques to present here today. “I want to say a special thank you to her for being part of this………….. I want to give most of the credit to her today to make sure the cheques are here,” Mr. Gahadhar said.

“The sky is the limit” is what Mr. Gajadhar left with the young entrepreneurs as he completed giving them a short history of where he started and where he is at today.

Certificates of participation were presented by the parliamentary Representative to all the young business persons, while the CEO and Executive Director of Rayneau Group presented the monetary awards.

In closing the ceremony the Parliamentary Representative thanked Mr. Gajadhar for his contributions to this youth initiative and looks forward to his continued support in the future. The Rep also took the opportunity to present his personal monetary prizes which he coined “Favourites” to three of the participants.

7 AWESOME FATHER'S DAY GIFT IDEAS FOR A LOVING DAD

Though we’re less than 4 days out from Father’s Day, if you’re like most people, you still haven’t gotten a gift for dear old Dad.

If you’re stumped as to what best fits the all-rounder on your list, look no further than ours. We’ve rounded up 7 of the best gifts a dad could ask for.

1 - If your dad is the type who prefers DIY projects over store-bought gadgets, the best gifts for handy dads are tools.

  • Dad has been a handyman all his life, so more than likely, his trusty tools are starting to show their age. What better way to show him you care than by giving him a brand new set of tools? This 25-piece set is sure to have the right tool for the job.

2 - How many times have you been to your dad’s Tech shop and noticed that he is always searching for his tools. Get him organized with the DEWALT small technician’s pouch. It has a built-in cell phone holder, an electrical tape strap, 4 pockets, a flashlight loop, and can attach to his belt or has a rear flap that will slide conveniently into a pocket for carrying.͍

3 -  Creating and maintaining a lawn that’s the envy of the neighborhood is this Dad’s favorite thing to do. He deserves only the best lawn tools and materials. Here are a few lawn gifts that will certainly be on this Dad’s must-have Father’s Day tools gifts list:

  • Help dad put the finishing touches on the lawn with a trimmer that can handle everything from cleaning up around shrubs to clearing walkways of overgrowth.
  • A leaf blower makes clearing a lawn of grass clippings and fall leaves quicker and easier.

4 - For the dad who spends a lot of time working on cars, consider automotive tool gifts for dad. Other car supplies will also come in handy.

4 - If your dad just got a new car or treats his old car like a treasure, fill a bucket with things like car washing supplies, wiper blades, and interior accessories.

  • A Majic set of car seat covers or outdoor car cover

5 - Grilling gifts for dad can work out well for the whole family. Give him the gift that gives back all year: a new grill or professional grill accessories.  Then, stand back as dad wows everyone with his favorite outdoor recipes.

  • A new grill will encourage a grill master to slow down their outdoor cooking. The menu offerings will expand, and a smoker offers a good excuse to sit in the backyard all afternoon. Include an instructional cookbook to help develop premium pit master skills.
  • Grill accessories like a grill basket, reusable skewers or an instant-read meat thermometer might be welcome gifts.

6 - If your dad has a green thumb, give him a gift for his garden. Whether it's a garden tool to use or a plant to grow, we have a few ideas.

  • Dad may enjoy a fresh pair of gardening gloves and hand tools, such as a soil scoop and hand trowel.
  • Give dad the gift of time this Father’s Day. He’ll love getting a hose timer, because once it’s set up, all watering chores will be handled.
  • Keep things around the garden looking trim with a lawn trimming tool.
Find just the things that grow best in dad's garden zone at the Lawn and Garden Department

7 - Coming up with options for great Father's Day gift ideas can be fun. Think about Dad's hobbies and interests. Consider what Father's Day gift ideas he's loved before. Think of equipment to complement his leisure activities, or offer him new hobbies to fill his downtime.

6 SIMPLE STEPS TO FIX YOUR UGLY LAWN!

Let’s face it: When you live in the suburbs, a healthy, well-kept lawn is a must, because before anyone even steps into your house, it’s your front lawn that makes the first impression of your home. “Your yard is an important extension of your home and with today's busy schedules, low maintenance care is key,” echoes one of our lawn and garden ads.

Achieving a lush lawn doesn't have to be a constant struggle; you don't have to pay big bucks for a lawn service to douse your yard with chemicals either. Growing healthy, green grass is mainly just a matter of knowing what to give your lawn, and when to give it.

Here are 6 steps you follow that will help to wake up your tired lawn:

Step 1 - Clear lawn of thatch and weeds

Thatch and weeds can be an ongoing problem that keeps your lawn from living up to its potential. Thatch is an almost impenetrable mat of tangled, intertwined grass and other material on the ground surface. Removing thatch helps you get the best from your lawn. To prevent thatch, keep leaves raked and remove some of the grass clippings after mowing.

Eliminate weeds in your lawn and prevent their return by maintaining healthy grass, using a minimum of weed killers, and good timing.

Step 2 - Level up the Lawn

One of the most commonly asked questions when it comes to lawns is how to level a lawn. The best time to fill uneven lawn low spots is during vigorous growth, which usually depends on the type of grass grown. Sand is oftentimes used to level lawns but putting sand on lawns can cause problems. Avoid putting sand on a lawn by itself. Using a dry topsoil and sand mix is much better for leveling uneven areas than putting sand on a lawn without mixing.

You can easily make your own lawn patching soil by mixing sand and dry topsoil in equal parts of half-and-half, spreading the leveling mix into low-lying areas of the lawn. Some people also use compost, which is great for enriching the soil. Only add one-half inch of soil mix to the low spots at a time, leaving any existing grass showing through.

After leveling, fertilize lightly and water the lawn thoroughly.

Step 3 - Feed the lawn

The trick to a beautifully lush lawn is the application of the right fertilizer at the right time. Fertilizers give plants essential nutrients to survive and thrive. All lawn fertilizers contain three primary nutrients that are labeled in this sequence on the packaging: nitrogen, phosphorous, and potassium (NPK).

Nitrogen (N) promotes rapid growth and lush green color.

Phosphorous (P) helps develop healthy root systems.

Potassium (K) boosts the overall health of your grass

Fertilizing your lawn at the right time will help ensure the grass is getting fed when it is most beneficial for the turf. It is recommended that the months of April – August are the best months to fertilize your lawn while the grass is growing and storing nutrients.

Step 4 - Make the lawn breathe again.

Aeration can be an extremely vital element to a healthy lawn because it allows air and water to penetrate built-up grass or lawn thatch.

Aeration involves perforating the soil with small holes to allow air, water and nutrients to penetrate the grass roots. This helps the roots grow deeply and produce a stronger, more vigorous lawn.

To aerate the lawn you can use a spike aerator, you simply use the tool to poke holes into the ground with a solid tine, or fork. (photo on the left)

Step 5 - Prepare and over-seed the lawn.

Over-seeding is one of the most important tasks involved in growing a healthy, lush lawn. Over time, lawns that have not been over-seeded will grow thin and unhealthy, making it much easier for weeds to overtake the lawn.

Many experts in lawn care recommend the months June – August as the ideal months for over-seeding 'tired', worn or drought-damaged lawns. Sowing your grass seed is very easy, follow these simple steps and soon you will have a lawn that will turn your neighbours’ green with envy.

1 - Rake or scarify the existing lawn

2 - Spread the seeds

3 - Tread the seeds into the lawn

It's best to try and keep off the lawn area for around 6 weeks after sowing. This is to allow the seeds a chance to get established.

Step 6 - Caring for the young plants.

So, you've recently planted some new grass seeds, but now you're wondering, what am I supposed to do next? Not to worry. Your work to this point will be in vain if you do not care for the young grass plants as the seeds germinate and begin to grow. After you've planted your grass seed, continue to water it at least twice a day assuming no rain. Once your new grass is established, you can go back to a normal watering routine.

At Rayneau, we can help you with the right advice and the right products to ensure you get the results you are looking for. Keeping your lawn lush, green, and weed-free can be accomplished with the right lawn equipment. You’ll find everything you need to cultivate a healthy lawn from the roots up in our Lawn and Garden Department.

LA GUERRE AND VIDE BOUTEILLE PRIMARY SCHOOLS HEADING FOR A TIMELY COMPLETION SAYS CIE OFFICIAL.

"Since our last update, we have made great progress towards the completion of both schools." So says Jeffery
McKie, an architect employed with Construction and Industrial Equipment (CIE) Ltd.

La Guerre:

Mr. McKie continued, "All major site works have been completed, including retaining and perimeter walls. Construction of the septic tank and soaraway is expected to begin this week along with the continuous works on the drainage systems.

The main entrance stairs to the building have been completed while work continues on the construction of the disabled ramps which will allow for disabled access to the ground and first floor of the school.

Most structural works have been completed including the casting of the reinforced concrete roof. Attention is now being the shift to finishes including the rendering of walls, making good the openings for doors and windows, tiling of washrooms, and priming of walls in preparation for painting."

Vide Bouteille:

As for the Vide Bouteille School, Mr. Mckie explains, "We have seen the completion of the long-awaited, reinforced concrete sloped roof with also signifies the completion of most of the structural works which, as in La Guerre, attention is now being focused on finishes, rendering of walls, installation of bathroom tiles, etc. Some classrooms have already been painted with the first coat of paint. Parts of the exterior have also been painted for review and approval.

Formworks are being erected for the construction of the disabled ramps which will allow for disabled, access from the ground floor to the first floor and the second floor.

All the necessary site surveys and levels have been taken,  making way for works to begin on, the driveway, parking, pedestrian-access-walk installation, and other site work.

All doors and windows, plumbing fixtures, and electrical fittings are available for installation in both schools once the major finishes have been completed."

The race is on to see which of the two buildings will be completed first. Though site works started with the La Guerre School, it appears that the Vide Bouteille School is leading ahead. "Nevertheless, both schools are expected to be complete and ready for the new school year," Mr. McKie pronounces with optimism.
