REBUILDING WITH PRECISION : PROGRESS UPDATE ON THE NORBERT & VIEUX SECRIEUX ROAD PROJECT

When you drive through the Norbert and Vieux Secrieux area these days, you can’t help but notice the energy on site. Machines hum late into the evening, workers in reflective vests move with purpose, and the transformation of this vital roadway is in full swing.

Project Manager Savvy Gajadhar recently provided an encouraging update on behalf of the Rayneau Group of Companies, highlighting that the project is now in one of its final and most intricate phases.

Finishing Strong with Drainage and Retaining Works

According to Gajadhar, the team is currently constructing smaller retaining walls that will be integrated with the drainage network—a crucial step toward ensuring long-term road stability and preventing future erosion. She also noted that barriers are being installed along the larger retaining walls completed earlier in the project.

“Our team is now focused on additional culverts and drainage,” Gajadhar explained. “These elements are vital to ensuring that the road remains resilient, even in heavy rainfall.”

Teamwork That Builds Results

A major highlight of this phase is Rayneau’s collaboration with WASCO, a partnership that’s keeping the project moving at remarkable speed. Gajadhar commended WASCO’s dedication, noting that their crews have been “working very late hours” to stay aligned with Rayneau’s fast pace.

“Their commitment means the supporting infrastructure will be ready in time,” he said, “and as we move into the final levels and drainage works, we’ll begin to slow slightly, preparing for the final layer of asphalt that will complete the project.”

Gajadhar expressed heartfelt gratitude to the residents of Norbert and Vieux Secrieux, acknowledging their patience and cooperation throughout the process. “They have been very good in assisting us,” she said. “This kind of community support makes a real difference in the success of our projects.”

CIE LAUNCHES SYBIL HILL ROAD IN ST VINCENT& THE GRENADINES

On Tuesday, October 21st, 2025, a new chapter began for the people of North Leeward, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, as Construction & Industrial Equipment (CIE) Ltd., a proud member of the Rayneau Group of Companies, officially commenced work on the Sybil Hill Road Reconstruction Project.

The Member of Parliament Carlos James, who represents the North Leeward constituency, visited the active project site to witness firsthand the progress of this much-needed infrastructural upgrade. His visit underscored the importance of this project, which promises to restore smooth, safe, and efficient travel along one of the island’s most vital road links.

A Road That Connects Communities

The Sybil Hill Road forms part of the North Leeward Highway — a critical stretch connecting communities such as Spring Village, Chateaubelair, and Kingstown. For years, the deteriorating roadway has posed challenges to motorists and residents alike. Now, with CIE’s involvement, change is rolling in.

According to the project’s engineering team, the reconstruction plan includes:

• The demolition and rebuilding of the existing retaining wall, which had shown signs of structural failure.

• Widening and stabilizing sections of the roadway to improve strength and durability.

• Drainage installation to redirect surface water safely and prevent future erosion.

• Curve adjustments to enhance safety and visibility for drivers.

By addressing these critical issues, the new road will not only ensure safer daily travel but also enhance economic activity and mobility across the northern corridor.

In addition to Sybil Hill, CIE has also begun preliminary work on the Cumberland Bypass Road — a secondary route designed to link North Leeward to the rest of St. Vincent. Motorists are kindly advised to continue using the Cumberland Power Station route while the works are ongoing.
